5 BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS FROM THE TOWN HALL (5.22.2023)

Another week, another town hall in the books! This was the final one for May 2023 so hopefully we get some awesome stuff in June as we turn the corner into summer!

Just a note - this is not a full recap of the town hall, just the 5 things that stuck out to me. Let's dive in:

Marketing/Timeline Updates

The Invennium website is now live and ready to onboard projects into #web3. There is so much potential with the platform and it is exciting to see Chibi Dinos as the first partner. Chibi Dinos 'Primal Hoop' game will be coming out shortly and it sounds like we can expect GLG and Soulkeep in the next 4-6 weeks as well.

Why Not Build New Projects on Splinterlands directly

Someone asked Aggy this question during the town hall and he responded by saying that the white paper for SPS doesn't have any designation for future partnerships the way GLS does. While this is true, governance is here and the distribution of SPS can always be changed if stakeholders decide that is what they want. For me, I'd say that a fantasy themed universe isn't going to be the best for onboarding sports or different genres of games, so having other platforms like GLS and Arcade Colony make sense.

Changes to Energy

We finally have some details on the energy changes that are being implemented on the 5/23 maintenance window. You will now be able to purchase an unlimited amount of energy but the price will increase by 50% for every 25 energy purchased in a 24 hour period. This is somewhat of a nerf to the current system as it allowed you to buy 50 energy for the base price as opposed to 25, but Matt did say that rewards had been significantly affected switch from ECR to Energy so this should help to curb that.

Tower Defense Pack sale extended

The original post for the Soulkeep pack sale back in September 2022 said that the packs would be taken off the market in July 2023. That date is right around the corner and with the game not yet live, it makes sense to extend the sale so that packs are available for purchase when there is an actual game to play. Aggy said he expects to have packs be on sale for at least 6 months so my thought is that we will see this sale extended to the end of the year with packs potentially being removed from the market in January 2024 if they do not sell out by then.

Future Card Packs same or more moving forward

Aggy responded to a question about pack prices and shared his thoughts on why he felt packs in the future would either need to be priced the same or more than previous sets. The answer is that it helps to preserve the value of cards, especially the older ones. I don't know what this means for Rebellion and beyond, but unless inflation continues to go crazy it's hard to imagine packs continuing to increase in price forever as that would be unsustainable for the player base. I hope to hear a longer term vision for this from Aggy or the team at some point in the future.

That's all we have for this week. Another quiet release window and a reminder that there will not be a Town Hall next Monday 5/29 due to the Memorial Day holiday in the US. Have a great week and I'll catch you guys back here after the next Town Hall!
