GLG: 5 BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS FROM THE TOWN HALL (5.19.2023)

We got some major updates on the Genesis League Goals game in the most recent town hall and I wanted to share my 5 biggest takeaways from it.

*Please note this is not a full summary, just the major points I found interesting and wanted to share with you all.

Let's dive in!

Updated Timeline

Unfortunately it does not look like the June 6th target is going to be hit when it comes to gameplay. That may actually still be a couple of months away with the beta mentioned for mid-July. Next up on the release roadmap though will be Team Management which is going to be one of my favorite aspects of this game. Let's hope we can get that in June and stay on track for a summer release of the full game.

Teams will be NFTs

As mentioned in the previous point, Team Management should be out in a couple of weeks and the new alpha shared on this town hall is that your Teams will actually be NFTs themselves. You will stake your player NFT cards on them and create teams of up to 22 players (starters/subs/reserves). What's great about this are the functional applications of being able to sell, rent, and delegate your full team. Unlike @splinterlands, deck management here will be completely different and with individual cards and teams gaining value through play via XP and synergy, respectively, I'm excited to be able to put time and energy into a specific team or teams and build them for long run competition.

Card Combining

We didn't get hard numbers yet, but to max regular foil cards these were hinted to be in the hundreds - specifically 400 as mentioned by Chiclet. Again, nothing confirmed but 400 BCX would be in line with Splinterlands common cards and since there is no rarity for GLG cards I can buy this as the baseline. Ultimately, they will need to remove the market minimum - whcih they said they will - otherwise building out a max deck team is looking quite expensive.

Fans = ranking/rating

Fans are going to be the equivalent to your rating/ranking in Splinterlands. I think it's a great parallel as it works nicely in a sports context. What's cool is that it sounds like you will be able to gain fans not only from playing, but other aspects within the game that could include Stadiums (land), promos, and items. Again, I have to reiterate all of this is just speculation and nothing is set in stone, but I do like the direction of in-game progression and as a Splinterlands player I want this game to be completely different. I want it to offer a fresh, new experience - not just Splinterlands with a sports skin.

Staking Requirements for GLX, GLUSD, & GLGT

When it comes to staking GLX, I don't think staking requirements should be much of a surprise as Splinterlands has had this in the white paper since it's inception and is now around the corner from implementing. Having stake in the system in order to earn makes sense and I hope we get numbers on that soon - although none of that means anything until we have an actual game so that is the priority. The new info that we got was there will also be mechanisms and benefits for staking GLUSD and GLGT and while we don't know the specifics, I'm all for token utility because we've seen how a lack of that can drag an entirely mature ecosystem like Splinterlands down. Getting an earlier start on the GLS platform for all 3 tokens will help to set a good baseline for the future as the player base and ecosystem grow.

That's all I have for you here, what did you find interesting from the town hall? Are there any topics I didn't cover that caught your attention? Let me know!
