IS IT WORTH IT TO OPEN PACKS OR HOLD LONG TERM?

Chaos Legion packs are all the rage right now. After almost 6 months of selling out of Untamed, the Splinterlands community is finally able to buy packs again and that is only going to continue once the general sale opens the flood gates next week.

While opening packs is fun and makes for great content, I wanted to dive deeper into whether or not it was financially worth it. For that, I used the Splintercards tool to determine pack value considering where card prices are today. What I found is that most packs, which contain the bare minimum (4 commons and a rare), are valued at $1.50 USD. If packs on average are being bought for $4, that is a bit of a tough pill to swallow.

So the question is, should you be opening packs or holding them? Of course, this comes down to what your own personal goals are. For me though, after seeing the numbers here, it only reinforced the idea that the best way to build a deck is through buying singles.

Packs are like gambling and there a chance to get a $200 gold foil legendary, but follow any of the discord chats and you will see players go on streaks in the hundreds or thousands of packs without getting one.

That's not to say it isn't worth it and like I mentioned before, how each player decides to approach this should be up to them. My big takeaway for now is to continue leveling up my deck by buying singles off the market while holding packs for future price appreciation.

Don't worry though, I will definitely hold some aside to continue opening on here!
