Obsession

to Neil Gaiman

Uncover your eyes.
Get used to the glare.
You will see a crossroads.
Follow the road to the left.
Always follow the tracks the monsters left in the mud.
Turn around. Go back to the crossroads.
Follow the road to the left.
Don't step on stones or weeds.
Turn around. Go back to the crossroads.
Follow the tracks left by the monsters.
To the right, you will see a row of trees.
Count them six times.
As you count them, make sure they are lined up.
When you reach the last tree, smell the scent of the flowers.
Breathe deeply again and again.
If you smell the scent later, ignore it.
Don't remember the flowers.
You will see that the road ends.
Look for a small path. Don't take it.
Look again.
You'll find the same path. Don't take it.
Look again.
You'll find the same path again. Take it.
From here you have to count the steps.
You'll run into a lever.
Stop counting.
The lever should be up.
Check it.
The lever must be up.
Check it. Check it again. One more time.
Go fifteen more steps along the path.
Retrace your steps.
Check that the lever is up.
Close your eyes for a few minutes.
Open your eyes.
Get used to the glare.
Check that the lever is up.
Keep moving forward.
You will reach the eastern forest.
Go into it.
It doesn't matter which direction you go.
You will get lost anyway.
You have to touch every tree on your left,
but only if it's within reach.
Eventually, you will come to a large stone.
It has an inscription on it.
Read it backwards, letter by letter.
Don't blink as you read.
Dig your nails into your fingers.
The pain will help you.
When you finish reading, nothing will happen.
If something happens, read it again.
Keep walking.
The spirit of the forest will appear.
She will tell you a story.
Don't believe what she tells you.
She will tell you the story again.
Please don't believe what she tells you.
Your life depends on it.
She will tell you the same story again.
Believe her. This time she will be telling the truth.
Thank her for her sincerity.
She will point you in a direction. Follow it.
You will arrive at the Elder Tree.
You will see that the tree is surrounded by dark wolves.
You will be afraid.
Walk among them and greet them kindly.
Turn back.
Look at the wolves.
You will be afraid.
Walk back among them.
Greet them politely.
Turn back.
Count the steps.
Walk back among them.
Repeat this as many times as you have counted steps.
The wolves will get bored and leave.
Get closer to the tree.
You will see caves in the roots.
Wait.
In the meantime, count only odd numbers.
At some point, a flesh golem will emerge.
Remember the number you arrived at,
even though it's useless.
The golem will leave you a treasure chest.
It is an electronic chest.
Say hello to him.
The password is inside the treasure chest.
Make sure you take the password before you open it.
Make sure you do it again.
One more time.
And again.

Obsesión

a Neil Gaiman

Tomalo.
Chequeala.
La palanca debe estar hacia arriba.
Chequeala. Volvé a chequearla. Una vez más.
Avanzá quince pasos más por el sendero.
Volvé sobre tus pasos.
Chequeá que la palanca esté hacia arriba.
Cerrá los ojos durante unos minutos.
Abrí los ojos.
Acostumbrate al resplandor.
Chequeá que la palanca esté hacia arriba.
Seguí avanzando.
Vas a llegar al bosque del este.
Internate en él.
No importa qué dirección tomes.
No pestañees mientras leés.
Vas a tener miedo.
Caminá entre ellos y saludalos amablemente.
Volvé hacia atrás.
Mirá a los lobos.
Vas a tener miedo.
Caminá de nuevo entre ellos.
Saludalos educadamente.
Volvé a asegurarte.
Una vez más.
Y otra vez.

I read Good Omens when I was still at school and I laughed myself silly. It was fantastic!!! This was great @agreste. You made me chuckle. !ALIVE !PIZZA

See, the interesting thing there is that I took this poem the complete opposite way. Though I can see the humor in it now that you've pointed it out, the way I read this was very dark and sinister. There were times where you could trust what you saw or heard, but most of the time you had to repeat the task to ensure that you were perceiving reality. Whether this was a matter of life-or-death that the tasks be completed just as such or the obsession compelling the individual made it seem this way - it had a bleak and urgent tenor to it as I was reading it. Gave me chills... in the best way!

Of course, I think it is both at the same time: obsession is not at all pleasant for those who suffer from it! !PIZZA
