One Moment That Made Me a Better Player
I only started playing Splinterlands recently and every match still feels like a lesson to me. I am still learning the cards, the rules and how battles really work. Some matches feel fun and some feel confusing. This battle was a huge learning for me as I lost while still using the best team I could get my hands on.
When I first saw the result of this match, I felt a little disappointed. I thought my team had better damage so I expected to win. Instead, I lost faster than I expected. That moment made me want to check it again and think about what really went wrong.
This is What I think happened
In this battle, I used a Water team that had strong attacks. I felt confident because my cards could deal good damage early. When the match started, everything looked fine to me. I thought damage alone would carry me through.
As the battle went on, I noticed my monsters falling one by one starting with New Beluroc Aegis and then Great Bear Druid. They were not lasting long on the field. Even though I was hitting hard, my team kept losing health very fast. After doing a replay of the battle, I realized something I cannot see was the one killing my team.
The enemy team used a strong health reduction combo from Thalgrimore and Sorrow Harvester. Thalgrimore and Sorrow Harvester worked together to lower my team’s health by 2 which put my tanks to 3 and 4 health respectively instead of 5 and 6. I did not expect this to matter so much but it changed everything.
Understanding the Importance of Health
Before this match, I focused mostly on damage. I thought higher attack meant a better chance to win and while this is true on my other matches, it's not on this one. This battle showed me that health is just as important, maybe even more. Without enough health, damage does not matter since my tanks die before I deal enough damage to their team.
The -2 health combo with Thalgrimore and Sorrow Harvester was very strong against my team. My units started with less health than usual. That meant they could not survive long enough to use their attacks properly. They died before they could make a real impact in the battle which is very frustrating given my confidence in this team.
How This Realization Changed My Play
After this loss, I started looking at battles a little differently. I stopped thinking only about how much damage my team could do. I began thinking how to get more effective tanks. I also now pay more attention to health and other stats as I try to balance damage with survival. This makes my choices better to avoid losses like this.
As a new player, this lesson was very important for me. I learned that losing can teach as much as winning. This one match helped me see the game in a deeper way. It showed me how strong Death element is as well since I thought they only have weak units and archon.
Learning From Loss as a New Player
Losing this battle did not feel good at first but after thinking about it, I felt grateful for the lesson. It showed me a weakness I never realized and taught me strength on what more I can do. Without this loss, I might have kept making the same mistake.
As someone still new to Splinterlands, I know I will lose many more matches. I will have harder battles as time goes on. All of That is part of learning. What matters is not the result of the battle itself. It's realizing you had a mistake and always asking not what was the mistake but why.
