MASTERING THE BORN AGAIN RULESET: TACTICAL INSIGHTS AND STRATEGIES!
Ruleset Focus
This week's installment of Battle Mage Secrets unveils the intricacies of the BORN AGAIN
ruleset, an intriguing dimension within the Splinterlands. This ruleset introduces a game-changing element — the REBIRTH
ability bestowed upon all units. Through this unique capability, the Monster gains the power of self-resurrection with a modest 1 Health restoration each time it faces defeat in the heat of battle. This dynamic feature adds an exciting layer of strategy and resilience to the gameplay! 😁

The Battle
While fulfilling my responsibilities in the Splinterlands scholarship account I have with Balthazar, bltzr-wizard-729, I was able to engage in a battle that involves the BORN AGAIN
ruleset. To get right into the action, the battle link can be found here. Otherwise, do read on as I go into more detail regarding the lineup and fight.
Let's start by examining the ruleset governing this particular battle, which, in essence, comprises only two distinct rulesets. The initial one is the Target Practice ruleset, affording all Ranged and Magic attack Monsters the coveted Snipe ability. Following this, the focal point of this week's challenge unfolds—the BORN AGAIN
ruleset, thoroughly explored in preceding sections. The engagement imposes a mana restriction of 14 and prohibits the utilization of Water and Life Splinters, establishing a strategic framework for participants to navigate!
Summoner, Kelya Frendul
Traversing the extensive array of Splinters available for selection in this battle presented a formidable task. Amidst the myriad choices, my preference leaned towards the reliable Water Splinter. I find that it presents a versatile assortment of Monsters, which, in my estimation, exhibit the potential to surpass those from other Splinters in the current battle scenario. Kelya Frendul was my pick, primarily for the valuable buffs of +1 Speed and +1 Armor to the team, contributing significantly to my tactical advantage! ✌️
First Position, Pelacor Bandit
The Pelacor Bandit emerges as a fantastic cost-effective option in the game, especially when navigating a low mana battle. Priced at a mere 3 mana, it flaunts commendable stats with 4 Melee attack, 6 Speed, and 5 Health. Its Flying ability elevates its evasion capabilities against both Melee and Ranged attackers. Although placing the Monster in the first position make its Sneak ability redundant, it still proves to be an invaluable asset in team compositions! 😛
Second Position, Tide Biter
In instances of a low mana battle, the Tide Biter consistently ranks as one of my preferred cards to incorporate into the roster. Its notable Melee damage, coupled with respectable Health and Speed attributes, establishes it as a dependable selection. What distinguishes the Tide Biter is its distinctive Reach and True Strike abilities, proving invaluable when strategically positioned in the second slot of the lineup. This allows the Monster to deliver effective attacks from a vantage point behind the tanker, adding a tactical advantage to its contributions! 😝
Third Position, Chaos Agent
Earning its spot in my lineup primarily for its cost-effectiveness at just 1 mana, Chaos Agent holds a strategic place in the third slot. This positioning allows it to serve as a potential tank, ready to step in when the first two Monsters in my lineup succumb. The combination of its Dodge and Phase abilities substantially enhances its chances of evading incoming enemy strikes, extending to even Magic attacks. Moreover, its Backfire ability adds another layer to its utility by dealing 2 Melee damage to opponents who miss their attacks! 😆
Fourth Position, Igor Darkspear
Igor Darkspear stands out as an exceptional and budget-friendly monster in the game, boasting a modest mana cost of 2 along with commendable stats, including 3 Ranged attack, 3 Speed, and 5 Health. The significance of Igor's Stun ability becomes apparent in the context of this low mana battle, where every turn holds heightened importance. This unique feature provides a chance to stun the target, compelling it to skip its next turn, thereby amplifying Igor's strategic value in disrupting the opponent's rhythm and gaining a crucial edge in the battle dynamics! 😜
Fifth Position, Torrent Fiend
Last Position, Hardy Stonefish
Inclusion of Torrent Fiend and Hardy Stonefish in my lineup was primarily dictated by the mana limitations imposed after selecting key members for my battle strategy. Strategically positioned in the last two slots, their role is to safeguard my backline against potential Sneaking Monsters that the enemy might deploy. Additionally, Torrent Fiend brings a valuable asset to the team with its Headwinds ability, imposing a -1 Ranged debuff on the opposing team! 😁
The Analysis
Despite the extensive range of Splinters available in this battle, encountering the Water Splinter, akin to my choice, did not come as a surprise. However, the opponent's team setup differed slightly from mine, and these nuanced variations turned out to be decisive 😅
In the context of the BORN AGAIN
ruleset, a key recommendation is to maximize all six slots in the lineup, ensuring the full utilization of the REBIRTH
ability from each Monster's position. This defensive strategy proves to be exceptionally beneficial in this rule framework.
Furthermore, in low mana battles, I prefer concentrating my attacks on a single point rather than spreading them out. By forgoing the Sneak ability of the Pelacor Bandit and positioning it in the first slot, as opposed to the opponent's Pelacor Bandit targeting my backline, I successfully directed all my attacks towards the enemy's tanker in the initial position, allowing for a focused and effective assault! 💪
