Splinterlands: An example of how to destroy a profitable business.

Greetings friends!

Crypto based games have become a favorite of people as they enjoy playing while earning crypto tokens and rewards as well after winning there. Splinterlands was one of the such game which made a great impact on blockchain based games. It started on Steem blockchain and later transferred to Hive.

I had purchased its starter packs since it started in 2018. Actual game started much later. In the beginning there had been good chances for the players to rise to the upper level and earn more and more rewards for completing daily and monthly missions. I have seen a time when the value of my total cards were around $35000. Then it started declining. I purchased more and more with the declining market. But, after so much investment and my sincere efforts, total value of my cards is Just around $1500. This is ridiculou!

This is not the result of anything else but the greed and lack of wisdom of the owners and the managers of the company which runs this game. In the beginning the good players have more chances to get more rewards. Later it was changed. So, the players who had more burning value of the cards, were able to secure more rewards. It was not bad either as the good players still had chances to get more rewards and make good profit from it. Then the owners of the company became more and more greedy. Now they have introduced souldbound cards as rewards. These cards cannot be traded on market, they cannot be listed for renting and they cannot be burnt as well. So, basically these cards are not worth of anything.

Other thing they done is to make souldbound cards more powerful than the cards which the players had purchased. So, the cards having value became weak and thus their prices started declining. Now, the players have to play almost 15 to 20 games to get one daily reward. For example I could secure only '03 end of the season chests' after playing for 08 days. For one daily reward, I have to secure 53750 rank point. One win gives me only 3000 rank points. So, it will take me 18 wins. This is too much for the efforts of the players. Even after getting one reward, one may get only a shit-reward card which is useless for the point of view of monetary value, or one may get around 0.2 SPS (native token). You can see yourself how low is this as the value of one SPS is just $0.021 right now.

So, the players are wasting their time, money and resources on splinterlands. On the other hand company is selling their card packs at the best rates. For example they are currently selling 'Rebellion pack' which cost around $5. They have sold a big part of the card packs and still have 6,687,000 card packs for selling. It means they will earn at least $3,34,35,000. So far they had sold many such cards pack serieses. Thus they have earned millions of dollars while foolish investors are losing their money. After buying these cards packs, they are forced to sell them at cheap rates on hive-engine but, not many are willing to purchase them. This is an open loot.

That's why I have decided to sell all of my splinterlands cards. So far I have put half of the cards in the open market. It will take me considerable time to sell them as not many people are willing to purchase these shit cards. So, my mission is very tough now. I don't think the company will change its way because it is earning huge profit without giving a shit to the investors and players. So, it is wise for the people not to invest on it.

I didn't write how they manipulated the gameplay and cheated with the gamers. I had written it many times before but nobody paid any attention. This is also an example of how greed and lack of wisdom can destroy a good profitable business.

Thank you!

Sorry to hear about your experience. I was just thinking about joining splinterlands, mostly because I am attracted to the gameplay. However, it is quite normal in the game market for an item/character/hero to lose value over time as new characters and updates are released.

What I'm more curious about is the unfair gameplay and manipulations you have experienced. This, for me, is what really kills a game.

The currency side of the game may be volatile, but the gameplay shouldn't. It should stay fun and engaging otherwise it will focus more on trading and the game loses its overall value in the game market.

This is the sad reality of life. People kill the goose which lays golden eggs. In this case company is making profit but the players are being deceived by them. I have raised this issue many times but nobody pays attention to it.
