Even Stevens ruleset

image.png

Description:

Only units with even mana costs may be used.

This rule does not apply to summoners.

There are no special tricks for this ruleset, but having an idea of mana points of a few monsters helps in predicting what your opponent can and cannot use.

The Battle Ruleset

Healed Out: All healing abilities are removed from Monsters and Summoners.
Even Stevens: Only Monsters with even Mana costs may be used in battles.
Equalizer: The initial Health of all Monsters is equal to that of the Monster on either team with the highest base Health.

This is a low mana ruleset game and almost every color is available to play, except the Water and Dragon Splinters. It is very difficult the assemble a team for a low mana battle and that is more true when the available monster pool is reduced. The Even Stevens will remove all the odd mana cost monsters from the game.

There will be no heal as well in this battle, so cheap healers and monsters with self heal worth nothing. The Equalizer will help a lot though, because it is possible to pick few really low mana monsters and their health will be the same like the other monsters on the battlefield.

My Team Composition

image.png

Yodin Zaku is a seven mana Summoner who is a one of the strongest summoner within the Splinterlands. His cost is a bit too much here, but his abilities are unmatched. He gives one ranged attack and health to all of his friendly monsters, but more importantly he gives the Blast ability as well, which will makes them to damage the adjacent monsters of their target.

The Scorch Fiend is a very good tank in the Equalizer ruleset and low mana game, because he cost zero mana and he will get some plus health about from this ruleset to take as much as damage as he can.

image.png

The Antoid Platoon will be my second and main tank, because he has the Shield ability, which means that all of the melee and ranged attack that is targeting him will be halved.

image.png

The Venator Kinjo is also a low mana monster and even though he can not attack from his position I had to bring him in case my opponent will try something similar like me. His Reflection Shield ability will mitigate any indirect damage trying to damage him.

image.png

The Fire Demon cost 4 mana and he has good stats on its own and Yodin even boost that with plus one ranged attack. The Blast ability is amazing in the hand of my ranged attack monsters to deal much more damage than my opponent could.

image.png

The Imp Bowman is another low mana cost monster whom I otherwise wouldn't use. He also has the Flying ability, so he will have greater chance to dodge the enemy melee or ranged attacks targeting him.

image.png

The Spark Pixies is a very fast ranged attack monster and he cost only four mana, so he will be my main damage dealer even though my three ranged attack monster has the same damage. The high speed means a lot in this game, because it helps to hit the enemy monsters and he will be the first to attack in every round.

My strategy was the same as usual when I am playing with Yodin Zaku to deal as much as damage possible and try to take advantage of the Blast ability.

My opponent brought a pretty strong front using the Life Splineter and even their summoner gave one armor to all of his friendly monsters.

I was very lucky in the second round, because my team was able to hit the Pelacor Conjurer and they didn't miss a lot. In the meantime my Antoid soak up a lot of damage and he died only in the middle of the third round and only because they had a Time Mage whom were dealing two magic attack on him.

By the end of the third round only three of their monsters left in their team, so my team had a slight advantage here.

In the fourth round both of us lost one monsters, but my team was a bit quicker than his and they managed to kill their Time Mage, so their last monster who was a ranged attack monster fell into the first position and could not attack from there.

Do you like Even Stevens? Why or why not?

If there is enough mana I like this ruleset, but usually I do not like the rulesets, which are banning monsters out of the battle. That would makes it more difficult to assemble a team and will be more chance for a mirror match.
