This Single Mistake Cost Me the Battle — Wands Out + High Five Ruleset

Today's 57 Mana battle was very interesting. The good thing is that I got to see two new modifiers which I believe I was seeing for the first time. After understanding them, I entered the battle with a strategy in mind.

However, I still made a major mistake which I will discuss later. That single mistake ended up costing me the battle.

As I have mentioned before that achieving a 50 percent win rate largely depends on understanding the modifiers and rulesets. If you understand the rules correctly and choose the right monsters with proper positioning then securing a win becomes much easier. But if you fail to understand the rules, defeat is always a possibility.

Let's first talk about the two interesting rulesets that appeared in this battle.

WANDS OUT

The first one was Wands Out. In this ruleset you can only summon units that have Magic Attack. You cannot use Melee or Ranged attackers. In your decks if you have few strong Magic Attack monsters then this becomes a huge disadvantage because your options are very limited.

That is why it is important to maintain a balanced deck with a good mix of all three kind of attackers.

In my case I only had three Magic Attack monsters available so I could only summon three units. If I had stronger Magic attackers I believe I could have won this battle.

HIGH FIVE

The second modifier was High Five. As the name suggests you are limited to summoning a maximum of five units. You cannot use more than five monsters in the battle.

Combining these two rulesets made things challenging. Not only was I restricted to Magic Attack monsters but I was also limited in the number of units I could summon. Since I had very few Magic attackers I couldn't even fill all five slots and ended up using only three monsters.

Considering these conditions I decided to use a Healing Archon. My idea was that it would continuously heal my monsters, helping them survive longer while dealing damage to enemy units. However I failed to realize that in a Magic only battle, choosing a Magic Archon would have been a much better option.

A Magic Archon provides additional magic power to your team. This means your Magic Attack monsters not only continue attacking on their own but also receive extra support from the Archon effectively increasing the overall damage output every round.

This was my biggest mistake and ultimately the reason I lost the battle.

My opponent played very smartly. He selected a Magic Archon and paired it with three strong Magic Attack monsters. At the beginning of the battle I didn't fully understand the impact of his setup. But as the fight progressed I noticed the extra magic damage coming from every enemy unit. At that point I realized that my Healing Archon strategy had failed.

One by one, my monsters were eliminated and eventually I lost this battle.

This battle once again proved how important it is to fully understand the rulesets before making your selections. If I had chosen a Magic Archon instead of a Healing Archon I believe I could have secured a great victory.

Still we learn from our mistakes. Every battle teaches something new and each day brings an opportunity to discover new strategies and techniques.

Considering these rulesets what would your team selection have been? Which strategy would you have preferred? Will be glad to see your answers in the comment section.
