Same Strategy Different Result...

Hey splinter-bites! I hope you all are doing well.

Today, I will show you guys how I won against a guy who used similar strategy and cards like me. This game was in the bronze league where I fell due to not playing for over 2 monsters. The people in this league definitely are good as they got unique blood thirsty monsters and summoners that easily snips out my monsters from the battle. Hence, the difficulty to climb back up.

Battle Condions

Let’s begin with the mana cap. It was 15 and there were 3 summoners to choose from: Water, Nature, and Light.

The battle rules were:

  • Fog of War: Monsters lose sneak, opportunity, and snipe abilities.

Let’s start from my side.

Summoner: Bortus(Ability: Reduction in Magic damage by 1 to all enemy monsters*).
Tank: Hardy Stonefish(No ability).
Ranged Attacker: Venari Marskrat(Ability: Martyr).
Magic Attacker: Oshanuus(Ability: Void).

My stratagem was simple. To reduce his monsters’ magic damage by 1 through my summoner while actively trying to increase my Oshanuus’ magic damage. I kept the Stonefish in front as a way to sustain damage before Oshanuus has to take the Tank’s position. So, even if he had an Oshanuus, he would do lower damage to me.
Also, I intentionally keep my Marksrat as a level 1 monster because I want it to die quickly and get that martyr effect on my monsters.

Martyr effect was the best trait a monster could have. It increased damage, speed, shield(if the monster had shield from the get go), and HP of it’s neighbouring monsters. We both used it for the same purpose: to buff up Oshanuus.

Now, his side.

Summoner: Keyla Frendul(Ability: Increase in Shield and Speed by 1 to all friendly monsters*).
Tank: Venari Marskrat(Ability: Martyr).
Magic Attacker: Oshanuus(Ability: Void).
Melee attacker: Torrent Fiend(No Ability).

His strategy was to get his Oshanuus on the tank’s place as soon as possible while defending from the back. His Torrent’s function was to receive damage by enemy monster as in the next round, it would be facing his “invincible” tank——Oshanuus.

Major Events

Round 1

IMG_7070.jpeg

His Oshanuus was rendered powerless in the first round as he also effortlessly beat my Stonefish.

Round 2

IMG_7072.jpeg

I beat his Marskrat first and so he had the ability to graze my Oshanuus as his Oshanuus proceeded to do the same to my Marksrat.

And then, we were on similar terms except that I could do a bit more damage than him.

Round 5

From here, it was a 2 oceanic-man show. Each damaging the other and slowly nearing the end of the fight.

Round 8

And finally, my Oshanuus beat him at round 8 with 6 HP remaining.

Round 9

IMG_7078.jpeg

His torrent did 1 damage to me before my berserker dealt the final blow.

And that’s how the cookie crumbles.

This better way to place your monsters in a deck. It was a 2 man show where the monsters used were the same but the guy with better monster placement won. Little did he knew that I was expecting him to pick Oshanuus that had both high HP and void while using magic attack that was un-repel-able. Usually, people would use nature or life summoners in the higher leagues but in the bronze leagues, people tend to pick the base-natural monsters that are traditionally build for mayhem.
