Brilliant article ! I think the real problem with the Metaverse is that he word is being thrown into every piece of technology because it sounds cool, but no-one really knows what it is yet, or who will own and control it.
If I had to guess, I'd say it's what happens when you put virtual reality, augmented reality, social media, and the internet of things into a pot, add huge amounts of data and a bit of blockchain, and stir until it turns into something.
Big tech companies are certainly trying to resolve the issue of who will own and control it, sadly, so I feel it is unlikely to be the decentralised paradise that crypto enthusiasts hope for. What I expect is that it'll be a centralised dystopia, with tech companies and governments battling each other to determine once and for all who owns the world and controls people's minds.

There's a lot to think about. It's interesting to me that this generation seems to be taking on the nickname of Degen (decentralized generation) while there's so much out there talking about the fourth turning and the abolition of nation states to be replaced by digital tribes. I personally have a really hard time seeing that happening but I'm trying to stay open minded to it since it could just be because its all I've ever known.
I am torn overall on the idea of the decentralized ownership/rule. I am absolutely anti governments or companies owning whatever it ends up being, but I really struggle with the concepts of "wealth determines the weight of the vote" (like decentraland) or just crowd rule. Both sound like they could be very bad.
