Larry Is Alive 11 April 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for thursday, the 11th day of April, 2024. What a terrible day for the English teams in the Uefa Europa league matches. WestHam United lost (0-2) away to Bayer Leverkusen while Liverpool were trashed (0-3) away to Atalanta. The only good news tonight was the win by Aston Villa (2-1) over Lille in the Europa Conference League.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Uganda. He finds out that on this day in 1979, Ugandan President Idi Amin, nicknamed the "Butcher of Uganda" due to his violence, fled the country as Tanzanian-led forces approached Kampala.

From Uganda, Larry goes to the world of space exploration. He finds out that on this day in 1970, Apollo 13 was launched from Cape Kennedy (now Cape Canaveral), Florida; although being slated to make the third lunar landing, the mission was abandoned due to an oxygen tank explosion en route to the Moon.

From the world of space exploration, Larry goes to Israel. He finds out that on this day in 1961, the trial of Nazi leader Adolf Eichmann began in Jerusalem and concluded eight months later with the sole death sentence delivered by an Israeli court.

From Israel, Larry goes to the world of mathematics. He finds out that on this day in 1953, Andrew John Wiles, a mathematician who developed a proof of Fermat's last theorem, was born in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.

From the world of mathematics, Larry goes to Indonesia. He finds out that on this day in 1815, the eruption of Mount Tambora, a volcano on the island of Sumbawa in what is now Indonesia, killed around 10,000 people.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from Algeria. He finds out that on this day in 2012, Ahmed Ben Bella, the major leader of Algeria's war of independence against France, and the first Prime Minister (1962-63) and first elected President (1963-65) of the Algerian Republic, steering the country towards a socialist economy, died in Algiers.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
