Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for tuesday, the 18th day of June, 2024. Meanwhile the UEFA European Championship continued today with matches in group E with Belgium playing against Slovakia. Slovakia however shocked Group E favourites Belgium in their opening match at Euro 2024, causing a stir in Frankfurt. Romelu Lukaku appeared to have equalised in the closing minutes of play, but the video assistant referee (VAR) disqualified it due to a handball in the build-up. Slovakia won by a lone goal (Belgium 0-1 Slovakia).

In the second match of the day, Romania won its first European Championship in 24 years with an impressive victory over Ukraine in Group E. The game ended Romania 3-0 Ukraine.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the world of religion. He finds out that on this day in 2006, Prelate Katharine Jefferts Schori was elected presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the USA, thus making her the first woman chosen as a churchwide leader in the 400-year history of the Anglican Communion.

From the world of religion, Larry goes to the history of wars. He finds out that n this day in 1812, US President James Madison issued a declaration of war against Great Britain, sparking the War of 1812, which emerged primarily as a result of US frustrations over restrictive maritime policies during the Napoleonic Wars.

From the history of wars, Larry goes to the world of space exploration. He finds out that on this day in 1983, Sally Ride, the first American woman to fly into space, was launched with four other astronauts aboard the space shuttle Challenger.

From the world of space exploration, Larry goes to England. He finds out that on this day in 1886, George Mallory, a British adventurer and mountaineer, was born in Mobberley, Cheshire. His disappearance on Mount Everest in 1924 became one of the most celebrated mysteries of the twentieth century.

From England, Larry goes to France. He finds out that on this day in 1815, Napoleon was defeated at the Battle of Waterloo, bringing an end to 23 years of recurring warfare between France and Europe's major nations.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from France. He finds out that on this day in 1429, Joan of Arc led the French army against the English at Patay, France.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
