Larry Is Alive #237 January 11, 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for thursday the 11th day of January, 2024. Sometimes, we don't always get all our wishes right. Our wishes sometimes may turn out to be illusory. That being said, Manchester United and England winger, has returned to former club Borussia Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. In July 2021, the 23-year-old made a big money move by joining Man United in a £73 million deal from German club Dortmund. But life has not been easy for him as he also fsiked to live up to the standards expected of him at United. Maybe a reunion with Dortmund may rejuvenate his career.

Similarly, Newcastle United posted a £73m loss for 2022-23 season. The Magpies were taken over by the Saudi Public Investment Fund in October 2021 as they finished 19th in the Premier League. As a quick fix, cash was splahsed and they finished fourth last season and qualified for the Champions League. Now, that has come with much greater pains...£73m loss!! Sometimes our wishes dodnt turn out right.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the world of aviation . He finds out that on this day in 1935, one of the most famous aviators in history, Amelia Earhart, accomplished the first successful solo flight from Hawaii to California — distance longer than that between the United States and Europe.

From the world of aviation, Larry goes to the middle east, Israel. He finds out that on this day in 2014, Ariel Sharon, an Israeli politician and commander who fought in the Arab-Israeli wars and led Israel as Prime Minister from 2001 to 2006, passed away at the age of 85, eight years after suffering a stroke that left him incapacitated.

From Israel, Larry goes to the world of mountaineering. He finds out that on this day in 2008, Sir Edmund Hillary, a New Zealand mountain climber and adventurer who, with Tibetan mountaineer Tenzing Norgay, was the first to summit Mount Everest, died at the age of 88.

From the world of mountaineering, Larry goes to Japan. He finds out that on this day in 1911, Suzuki Zenk, a Japanese politician who served as Prime Minister from 1980 to 1982, was born in Yamada, Iwate Prefecture.

From the world of mountaineering, Larry goes to Switzerland. He finds out that on this day in 1906, Albert Hofmann was a Swiss scientist who discovered the psychedelic drug lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) in 1938 after isolating components found in ergot (Claviceps purpurea), a fungus that affects rye, was born in Baden, Switzerland.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history also from the world of music and entertainment . He finds out that during this month in 1971, Mary J. Blige, an American singer-songwriter and actress who has been called the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, was born in Bronx, New York, U.S.A.
