Larry Is Alive #239 January 13, 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for tuesday the 13th day of January, 2024. Cole Palmer's first-half penalty ensured that Chelsea got a narrow win (1-0) over their West London rivals Fulham at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League today. With today's loss, the visitors (Fulham) stay in 13th position on the log. They have also lost four of their past five matches now.

On the part of Chelsea, that victory meant that they've now won four home league matches on the bounce for the first time since July 2020.

In the second match of the day, Oscar Bobb of Manchester City scored a stoppage-time winner as the Cityzens moved within two points of Liverpool at the summit of the Premier League with victory over Newcastle (2-3) in a breathless encounter at St James' Park.

City boss Pep Guardiola and the entire City squad, including substitutes, celebrated emphatically at the final whistle as they savoured a third successive league win and sixth in all competitions.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from France. He finds out that on this day in 1898, French author Émile Zola published an open letter in the newspaper L'Aurore condemning the French general staff for its part in the treason conviction of Jewish French army officer Alfred Dreyfus in 1894.

From France, Larry goes to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 2021, Donald Trump became the first U.S. president to be impeached twice, after the House of Representatives approved an article of impeachment accusing him of "incitement of insurrection" for allegedly encouraging his supporters to storm the Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, in which Trump was defeated by Joe Biden.

From the USA, Larry goes to Italy. He finds out that on this day in 2012, the Costa Concordia, a cruise ship carrying 4,200 passengers, ran aground and sunk off the coast of Giglio Island in Italy, killing 32 people.

From Italy, Larry goes to Peru. He finds out that on this day in 1997, Ecuador's President Abdalá Bucaram Ortz paid an official visit to Peru's President Alberto Fujimori, marking the first official visit to Peru by an Ecuadoran president in 150 years.

From Peru, Larry goes to India. He finds out that on this day in 1949, Rakesh Sharma, an Indian military pilot and cosmonaut, the first Indian citizen in space was born in Patiala, Punjab state, India.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history also from Russia. He finds out that during this month in 1906, Aleksandr Popov, a physicist and electrical engineer widely regarded as the inventor of radio in Russia, died in St. Petersburg. Aleksandr Popov, evidently built his first primitive radio receiver, a lightning detector (1895), without being aware of the contemporaneous work of the Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
