Larry Is Alive #240 January 14, 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for sunday the 14th day of January, 2024. It's been a day of draws for the teams I support in various tournaments. The AFCON started yesterday with the host country Ivory coast winning (2-0) against Guinea Bissau in the tournament's cutting raiser. Today was the turn of Nigeria's national team, the Super Eagles to kickstart their campaign against Equatorial Guinea. And against the expectations of their numerous fans, the game ended in a draw, (1-1). Super Eagles now walk a tall order as they face Ivory Coast on thursday while Guinea Bissau face Equatorial Guinea same day.

As it that was not enough for me today, in the EPL second match of the day, Manchester United who played host to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford also ended their game in a draw. United were actually pegged back twice by Spurs. That match completed my day of drab draw matches, if there is anything like that, !LOL

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Tunisia. He finds out that on this day in 2011, following large protests against poverty, unemployment, and political repression, Tunisian President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali stepped down; the rebellion was known as the Jasmine Revolution.

From Tunisia, Larry goes to space exploration. He finds out that on this day in 2005, The Huygens entry probe landed on Saturn's largest moon, Titan; becoming the first spacecraft to land on a planetary surface in the outer solar system.

From space exploration, Larry goes to Greece. He finds out that on this day in 1997, Archaeologists in Greece revealed the discovery of an old location in Athens that may have been Aristotle's Lyceum..

From Greece, Larry goes to the Ottoman Empire. He finds out that on this day in 1861, Mehmed VI, the last sultan of the Ottoman Empire, was born.

From the Ottoman Empire, Larry goes to India. He finds out that on this day in 1949, Rakesh Sharma, an Indian military pilot and cosmonaut, the first Indian citizen in space was born in Patiala, Punjab state, India.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history also from Russia. He finds out that during this month in 1906, Aleksandr Popov, a physicist and electrical engineer widely regarded as the inventor of radio in Russia, died in St. Petersburg. Aleksandr Popov, evidently built his first primitive radio receiver, a lightning detector (1895), without being aware of the contemporaneous work of the Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
