Larry Is Alive 8 April 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for Monday, the 8th day of April, 2024. There were reports that solar eclipse will take place on Monday, the 8th day of April 2024. It is said that the eclipse will sweeps across North America. So I ask, did you witness it, especially those in North America?

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from India. He finds out that on this day in 1950, Jawaharlal Nehru of India signed the Delhi Pact with Liaqat Ali Khan of Pakistan, which ensured the safe passage of refugees displaced after the two countries cut relations in December 1949.

From India, Larry goes to England. He finds out that on this day in 2013, Margaret Thatcher, the United Kingdom's (and Europe's) first female Prime Minister (1979-90), died at the age of 87 in London. She was the only British prime minister in the twentieth century to win three successive terms.

From England, Larry goes to Norway. He finds out that on this day in 1912, Sonja Henie, a Norwegian-American figure skater who won the world amateur championship for ladies for ten years in a row (1927–36) and three gold medals at the Winter Olympics (1928, 1932, and 1936), was born in Kristiania [now Oslo], Norway.

From Norway, Larry goes to Ghana. He finds out that on this day in 1938, Kofi Annan, a Ghanaian international civil servant, served as Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) from 1997 to 2006 was born in Kumasi, Gold Coast now Ghana. In 2001, he received the Nobel Peace Prize along with the United Nations.

From Ghana, Larry goes to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1990, Ryan White, an American teenager who became a national figure after contracting AIDS from an injection of factor VIII, a chemical required for blood clotting, to treat his haemophilia, died in Indianapolis, Indiana at the age of 18.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from the world of religion. He finds out that on this day, most Buddhists in Japan commemorate the birth of the Buddha, who lived in India between the sixth and fourth centuries BCE and founded Buddhism.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
