Larry Is Alive February 03, 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for saturday the 3rd day of February, 2024. Gentlemen, the South African goalkeeper William saved four penalty kicks tonight. Can you just beat that! Poor penalties by Cape Verdean players ensured that they crashed out of the AFCON. The game ended (0-0) and had to be stretched into extra time and yet no winner could emerge. It was then settled by penalties. South Africa will meet the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Wednesday in one of the semi-final matches.

However, there were chaotic scenes at the final whistle in the match between host country Ivory Coast vs Mali. Oumar Diakite's goal in the 122nd minute of the extra time propelled the 10-man Elephants of Ivory Coast into the semi-finals at the expense of a sad Mali.

Several Mali players surrounded referee Mohamed Adel and argued with him, and Hamari Traore was given a red card for going too far in his protest.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Germany. He finds out that on this day in 1468, Johannes Gutenberg, a German craftsman, inventor, and printer whose printing press was regarded as a historical invention, died in Mainz.

From Germany, Larry goes to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1690, Massachusetts issued the first paper currency in the American colonies.

Still in the USA, Larry finds out that on this day in 2005, Alberto R. Gonzales, an American lawyer and judge, was sworn in as the United States' attorney general, making him the first Hispanic to hold the position.

From the USA, Larry goes to the world of space exploration. He finds out that on this day in 1995, American astronaut Eileen Collins became the first woman to pilot a space shuttle, the Discovery.

From the world of space exploration, Larry goes to Burkina Faso. He finds out that on this day in 1951, Blaise Compaoré, a military officer and politician who took control in Burkina Faso after a coup in 1987, was born in Ouagadougou, Upper Volta, French West Africa [now in Burkina Faso]. He resigned on October 31, 2014, after several days of violent protests.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from the Ottoman Empire. He finds out that on this day in 1451, Murad II, Ottoman Sultan (1421-44 and 1446-51) who expanded and cemented Ottoman rule in the Balkans, adopted a policy of restraint in Anatolia, and helped lead the empire to recovery after its near-demise at the hands of Timur during the Battle of Ankara (1402).

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
