Larry Is Alive March 11, 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for sunday, the 11th day of March, 2024. Today is the first official working day of the week. Happy new week folks. With the (1-1) draw recorded by Liverpool vs Manchester City, I can see a rollercoaster finish for the EPL. Two teams are now tied on the same points, Arsenal, Liverpool....64pts while Manchester City is on 63pts. The end of the league is really going to be interesting.

Meanwhile, Chelsea saw off Newcastle United (3-2) at Stamford Bridge this evening in the only game today. That loss kept the Toons on the 10th position while Chelsea moved up to 11th.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Japan. He finds out that on this day in 2011, an earthquake struck off the northeastern shore of Honshu, Japan, inflicting massive damage and unleashing a disastrous tsunami that resulted in a major nuclear disaster.

From Japan, Larry goes to the World Health Organization. He finds out that on this day in 2020, The WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic.

From the WHO, Larry goes to Chile. He finds out that on this day in 2006, Michelle Bachelet, a Chilean politician, became the country's first female President when she was sworn into office.

From Chile, Larry goes to Spain. He finds out that on this day in 2004, Madrid was subjected to a series of terrorist attacks when 10 explosives detonated by Islamist extremists exploded on four trains at three separate rail stations, killing 191 people and wounding another 1,800.

From Spain, Larry goes to the Lithuania. He finds out that on this day in 1990, following a vote in parliament, Lithuania became the first Soviet republic to declare independence from the USSR.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from Ivory Coast. He finds out that on this day in 1978, Didier Drogba, an Ivorian professional football (soccer) player who was Côte d'Ivoire's all-time top goalscorer in international matches and was voted African Footballer of the Year twice (2006, 2009) was born in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Happy birthday 🎂🎉 to Didier Drogba.
