Larry Is Alive March 13, 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for wednesday, the 13th day of March, 2024. Happy midweek everyone. Last night, Arsenal booked their place in the UEFA champions league quarter-finals with a (4-2) win over FC Porto on penalties. The game had ended (1-1) on aggregate. With last night's win, Arsenal reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2009-10, ending a run of seven consecutive last-16 eliminations in the competition. Goodluck to them.

Where does Rafa Benitez go from here? He has just been relieved of his duties as the head coach of Celta Vigo after just managing them for eight months. Rafa Benitez departs after winning just 5 of his 28 league matches in charge of RC Celta. Goodluck to him in his future endeavours.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Sweden. He finds out that on this day in 1809, Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden was deposed not long after the country surrendered Finland over to Russia.

From Sweden, Larry goes to Russia. He finds out that on this day in 1881, Tsar Alexander II of Russia was assassinated in Saint Petersburg.

From Russia, Larry goes to the world of cosmonauts and astronauts. He finds out that on this day in 1986, Soviet cosmonauts Leonid Kizim and Vladimir Solovyev were sent aloft in a Soyuz spacecraft to meet the space station Mir and become its first inhabitants.

From the world of cosmonauts and astronauts, Larry goes to the Vatican City. He finds out that on this day in 2013, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, Archbishop of Buenos Aires, was chosen Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, succeeding Benedict XVI, who had resigned.

From the Vatican City, Larry goes to the world of space exploration. He finds out that on this day in 1781, English astronomer William Herschel discovered Uranus, the seventh planet from the Sun, which he characterised as "a weird either nebulous star or possibly a comet" and named after the father of the god Saturn.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from the world of publication. He finds out that on this day in 2012, Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc., announced the discontinuation of its print edition, the oldest and longest continuously published English-language general print encyclopaedia.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
