Larry Is Alive March 23, 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for Saturday, the 23rd day of March, 2024. Manchester United ladies were hammered (3-1) today by their Manchester City counterpart. I doubt if United ladies will mount a strong challenge to the WSL title this season. They are fourth on the log.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Egypt. He finds out that on this day in 2021, the Suez Canal, one of the world's busiest shipping routes, was closed after the mega-freighter Ever Given ran aground; it took six days to move the ship.

From Egypt, Larry goes to the world of space exploration. He finds out that on this day in 2001, despite being built for only five years of service, the Soviet/Russian space station Mir spent 15 years in orbit before reentering Earth's atmosphere and landing into the South Pacific Ocean.

From space exploration, Larry goes to Taiwan. He finds out that on this day in 1996, Lee Teng-hui won Taiwan's first direct presidential election; while in power, he worked to democratise Taiwan's political system.

From Taiwan, Larry goes to Germany. He finds out that on this day in 1933, the German Reichstag, dominated by the Nazi Party and the German National People's Party, voted to enact the Enabling Act, ensuring Nazi supremacy, in a process that began roughly a month earlier with the Reichstag fire.

From Germany, Larry goes to Singapore. He finds out that on this day in 2015, Lee Kuan Yew, a politician and lawyer, and Singapore's Prime Minister from 1959 to 1990 died in Singapore. During his long reign, Singapore became the most prosperous country in Southeast Asia.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from Somalia. He finds out that on this day in 1983, Mo Farah, a Somali-born British distance runner who won gold medals in the 5,000 and 10,000 metre races at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics was born in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
