Larry Is Alive March 24, 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for Sunday, the 24th day of March, 2024. Nothingham Forest have Ben hit with a four points deduction for breaching Premier League profit and sustainability rules. That point deduction have placed them in the relegation zone, eighteenth position, one point below Luton Town. They have however lodged an appeal against the points deduction. Will they succeed? Only time will tell.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1989, the oil tanker Exxon Valdez ran aground, spilling approximately 11 million gallons (41 million litres) of oil into Prince William Sound in Alaska, causing the greatest oil disaster in US history to that point.

From the USA, Larry goes to Yugoslavia. He finds out that on this day in 2016, Radovan Karadžić, a Serbian politician, was found guilty of war crimes, including genocide, during the civil conflict that followed Bosnia and Herzegovina's secession from Yugoslavia in 1992 and sentenced to 40 years in jail.

From Yugoslavia, Larry goes to Bhutan. He finds out that on this day in 2008, Bhutan held National Assembly elections, completing the country's transition to democracy.

From Bhutan, Larry goes to El Salvador. He finds out that on this day in 1980, Archbishop Óscar Romero, a prominent critic of violence during El Salvador's civil strife, was assassinated while celebrating mass in San Salvador. He was canonised in 2018.

From El Salvador, Larry goes to Germany. He finds out that on this day in 1944, more than 75 Allied captives made a daring escape from a POW camp in Sagan, Germany, though the most were later apprehended; it inspired the classic World War II film The Great Escape (1963), starring Steve McQueen.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from Somalia. He finds out that on this day in 2016, Johan Cruyff, a Dutch football (soccer) forward known for his innovative playmaking died in Barcelona, Spain. He received multiple awards, including European Footballer of the Year (1971, 1973, 1974).

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
