Today In History: 19 September 2024
Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. Most of us may not be aware of some major happenings or events around the globe that took place on this day many years ago. I will therefore take us round the globe in a giffey to have a look at some of those historical events that took place on this day, thursday the 19/09/2024 in history.
We begin today from Argentina. Do you know that on this day in 1955, President Juan Perón of Argentina was deposed and fled to Paraguay following an army-navy mutiny headed by democratically inspired officers.
From Argentina, we move over to the world of aviation. Do you also know that on this day in 1783, The Montgolfier brothers launched a balloon with a rooster, a duck, and a sheep, significantly advancing French aeronautics.
From the world of aviation, we move over to the world of ancient life. Now, on this day in 1991, German tourists found the mummified human body, later dubbed the Iceman, in the Ötztal Alps on the Italian-Austrian border. It was eventually confirmed that the body dates back to 3300 bce.
From the world of ancient life, we move over to the world of astronauts and cosmonauts. Do you know that on this day in 1965, Sunita Williams, an American astronaut who set records on three missions to the International Space Station (ISS) was born in Euclid, Ohio, U.S.A.
Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from Angola. Do you know that on this day in 1936, Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, an army officer and politician who served as president of Tunisia from 1987–2011 was born near Sousse, Tunisia.
