Damage Negation and Healing Head to Head Battle Challenge
Introduction
I just happened to pick up a Wood Nymph at a highly discounted price this week, before the weekly Battle Challenge was announced. So this week I'll be using the actual card of the week.
Wood Nymph Card Review
I actually like this card a lot. Tank Heal is a great ability and having a Magic Attack along with it is a steal for 4 Mana. The downsides are the low Health and Speed. Both the negatives improve with level and eventually she gains Strengthen, boosting the Health of her entire team. I might have to keep her around, but I don't know if I'll be able to afford to level her up unless the bottom completely falls out of the market.
Lineup Selection
It was an Unprotected 29 Mana cap battle. Only Earth and Dragon Splinters were available. With the unprotected ruleset and my opponents previous battle history, I was relatively sure they'd select Obsidian and run a Magic spam lineup. This gave me an idea.
An old autobid Byzantine Kitty happened to come through earlier today and it gave me an idea. What if I ran Magic AND Heal spam with +2 Speed as the counter?
I selected Byzantine Kitty as my Summoner hoping that the combination of Tank Heal and +2 Speed would bring me victory.
First up was Failed Summoner to soak up a lil damage and hopefully Magic Reflect back damage to my opponent's casters.
Next up the real tank, Unicorn Mustang. I would need a tank with Void to stay alive long enough to receive heals. Also, operating at 6 speed will make it extremely hard to hit if my opponent decided to go a different route.
Wood Nymph was up next. I put her towards the front to protect the more costly Goblin Psychic.
Goblin Psychic was up next bringing the most magic damage in the linup and heals, I needed him protected.
Khmer Princess was all I could afford for my last position. I put her in the back in case there was a stray Sneak.
The Battle
A number of flaws in my strategy became apparent as soon as the battle started. I had expected my opponent to play an Obsidian lineup, but I had taken 2 monsters with only a single point of Magic Damage and my opponent was using Unicorn Mustang leaving them completely ineffective. To make matters worse, my opponent brought Mushroom Seer with it's Silence ability, dropping my Goblin Psychic's damage to an ineffective single point. I had debated taking Acid Shooter instead of Failed Summoner and that would've been a better choice.
Watch the battle here, it had me laughing.
Final Thoughts
The triple Tank Heal and Void combo was effective against Obsidian. Next time I'd take some Melee or Ranged damage instead of Failed Summoner and Khmer Princess. Byzantine Kitty won this match with the unstoppable healing. It saved the Unicorn Mustang in the Fatigue rounds, allowing me to outlast my opponent.
