Hello everyone and welcome to the Battle Weekly Challenge. This week the challenge is with Carrion Shade, a common Death element card with no abilities at level 1. This card belongs to the Chaos Legion edition and is part of the Starter cards, so we can use it for free.

In this particular battle we are facing a level 2 Obsidian summoner. Luckily, the opponent used all his cards at level 1 except one of them which was level 3, so we are going to fight almost on equal terms since all my cards are level 1. So let's see the rules, the team and the details of the battle.

Battle Rules

This is a 40 mana battle with the "Aim True" and "Explosive Weaponry" rules in which only Earth and Death elements are allowed.

• A trick for this ruleset is to have fast monsters with Snipe, Sneak and Oppotunity offensively and monsters with Shield and Void defensively.
• Choose higher speed or higher health combined with high damage output is also great in this ruleset.

My Lineup

Thaddius Brood sat in silence in his cell, staring hard at the far wall across from him. While he was completely still and quiet, inside his mind was a busy place. The voice from the entity he'd summoned, the one that connected with him, had plenty to say. We will get out of this, dear Thaddius. This cell is not enough to hold us. We will kill those that put us here. That dared to claim they were our masters. Everyone will know of our power. Thaddius grinned.

Thaddius Brood: I think using Thaddius Brood as summoner in this battle is a good option as it can help a lot in this ruleset and it should work well against the elements that are available: Earth and Death. Removing -1 health and -1 magic attack from all enemy monsters will help us to kill enemy monsters faster and be more resistant to magic attack monsters, which are very likely to be used in this battle due to the elements available.

Bone Golem: I have chosen Bone Golem as the main tank because there is a 50% chance that the enemy will play the Earth element. In the Silver league players using the Earth element usually use magic attack monsters to take advantage of the +1 magic attack that the Obsidian summoner gives to all friendly monsters. Using Bone Golem in the first position together with Thaddius Brood as a summoner will make us practically invulnerable against these teams, since both reduce the magic attack of the enemy monsters with their abilities.

Harklaw: In the second position I have decided to use Harklaw for two reasons. On the one hand, we already have a lot of defense against magical attacks with Thaddius Brood and Bone Golem, so we need to defend against melee and ranged attacks. In this sense Harklaw is a good choice as he only takes half of the melee and ranged attacks with his Shield ability. On the other hand, using Harklaw in the second position will allow us to take less damage from Blast attacks caused by the "Explosive Weaponry" rule.

Sand Worm: I think this card is very powerful. Its high attack (5) and high HP (5) make him a very strong monster. In addition, this card can target the last monster on the enemy team with his Sneak ability, which is very important in this battle as we do additional damage to monsters adjacent to the target monster due to the "Explosive Weaponry" rule.

Octopider: It has a good combination of speed, attack and HP. Its high stats make it very useful in this ruleset. "Explosive Weaponry" gives it the Blast ability and "Aim True" makes its attacks not miss.

Carrion Shade: In the last position I decided to use Carrion Shade. This card doesn't have any abilities at level 1, but using it in the last position allows us to defend our strongest monsters from enemy monsters with the Sneak ability.

Did your strategy work?

I think my strategy worked quite well. We have been able to successfully counter the opponent's strategy and win the battle. The choice of our summoner was very wise as there was a high chance that the opponent would use magic attack monsters. In addition, we have taken into account the set of rules of the battle to make a very strong team around this ruleset that could fight against everything (magic, melee and ranged teams). So I’m proud of the result and the strategy I used.

Do you like the Carrion Shade?

Yes, I like Carrion Shade. Personally I think it is a card that should be used wisely and in the right battles. We can benefit from its low mana cost to bait enemy monsters with the Sneak or Opportunity ability.

In addition, this card becomes more powerful at level 3 when it gets the Flying ability, as it increases the chances of evading attacks from monsters who do not have the Flying ability.

Therefore, we can use this card as a decoy to protect our strongest monsters.
