Hello everyone and welcome to the Battle Weekly Challenge. This week the challenge is with Mycelic Infantry, a rare Earth element card with the Shield ability. This card belongs to the Chaos Legion edition and is part of the Starter cards, so we can use it for free.

In this particular battle we are going to face a level 1 Kelya Frendul summoner. We are going to play on equal terms as we can only use cards at level 1. So let's see the rules, the team and the details of the battle.

Battle Rules

This is a 26 mana battle with the "Standard" rule. All elements (Fire, Water, Earth, Life, Death and Dragon) are allowed to play.

  • There are no special tricks for this ruleset, but make a balanced team.

My Lineup

Although the Magi hates to admit it, Mylor is the most gifted student who has attended Summoners’ Green in many years. In his hundreds of years, the Magi has taught many students whose ambition exceeded reason and morality. When he looks into Mylor’s eyes, the Magi still sees a power-greedy child. Against the headmaster’s wishes, Mylor responded to a Gloridax invitation to Mount Mox and now summons competitively in the tournaments. His style is wild and reckless and he laughs while summoning, like it is all a big game.

Mylor Crowling: I think using Mylor Crowling as a summoner in a low mana battle is a good option as it gives the "Thorns" ability to all friendly monsters at the start of the battle. This means that when a friendly monster is hit by an enemy monster with a melee attack, it does damage back to the attacker. This is very helpful as it will allow us to kill enemy monsters faster.

Mycelic Infantry: In the first position I have decided to use Mycelic Infantry, the protagonist of this challenge. I think this card is an amazing tank as he only takes half damage from melee and ranged attacks thanks to its Shield ability. In addition, we can also take advantage of its low Speed (1) in games with the "Reverse Speed" battle rule, where slower monsters attack first.

Creeping Ooze: Ooze is one of those cards that fits very well into almost any composition. I find it especially good in low mana games thanks to its "Slow" ability, which reduces the attack speed of all enemy monsters allowing our monsters to attack first and have less chance to miss.

Mushroom Seer: I saw that my opponent used a lot of magic attack compositions in his last games, so I decided to use this card that reduces the magic attack of all enemy monsters by -1 for protection.

Wood Nymph: This card will help us to keep our tank alive as long as possible thanks to its Tank Heal ability, which restores a portion of the monster in the first position's health each round. In addition, Wood Nymph does magic damage, which is very important to avoid my opponent's heavily armored monsters.

Venari Scout: His Opportunity ability allows him to attack from any position and target the enemy monster with the lowest HP. He can kill enemy monsters on the first turn.

Acid Shooter I love cards with the Scattershot ability like Acid Shooter, they are so much fun as they attack a random target. I like to use cards with the Scattershot ability to try to kill enemy monsters with low HP.

Did your strategy work?

Yes. I think my strategy worked well. We have managed to use a varied combination of different types of damage (melee, magic and ranged) and win the battle. So I am happy with the result and the strategy I used.

Do you like Mycelic Infantry?

Yes, I like Mycelic Infantry. I think it is a very good card if we use it in the right battles. I don't think it's a card that works well in every composition, but if we use it in the right games it can make the difference between victory and defeat. Basically, we have to make the best use of his Shield ability, which reduces damage of melee and ranged attacks by half (except monsters with attack 1 which deals 0 damage). So if you are sure you are going to take a lot of damage from melee and ranged attacks just use it!
