Legendary Cards - Part II

Today this analysis of the new reward cards comes to an end with an analysis on Harklaw. Hope you enjoyed it so far!

Harklaw

Last but not least Harklaw. Another neglected card, being priced at around $18 at the time of writing. At level 1 it has 2 Melee Attack, 2 Speed, 3 Shield and 9 HP with the Shield ability, which halves all melee and ranged damage, as well as thorns and cancels redemption. It therefore gets no damage from 1 melee or 1 ranged attack. So it can be a really great tank. And it gets better. At level two it gets the Immunity ability making it immune to negative status effects – especially in poison rule set this can be a game changer. At level 3 Demoralize is added, which reduces the melee attack by one; it doesn’t reduces it to 0, but since Harklaw has Shield it won’t be hurt by melee attacks less which are 2 or less. Combined with Zintar this goes up to 3 Melee damage, or Combined with Contessa it is the first 2 Melee and Ranged damage, that don’t affect Harklaw at all. It works also great with Owster Rotwell and probably best with Mimosa Nightshade, because then even magic attacks will be reduced. It definitely will also work great with Crypt Mancer against Melee attackers.
Immunity is only seen with Epic and Legendary Cards, all of them being valued a lot higher than Harklaw.
Kralus is at $290, but has Flying, heal and Strengthen, as well as 12-13 HP and 5 Shields, with Melee and Magic attack. So it is not really a good comparison. Almo Cambio is a neutral, but has no attack, so it is likely that a level 2 Harklaw is more valuable than a Almo Cambio – at least for death splinter. Epona is a 1 mana card, that is more like another summoner, with strengthen, divine shield, immunity and repair, but it is priced at $327.
Although different, Caladuum might be a good comparison, with Void, Cripple, Immunity and Thorns as abilites, 3 Magic Attack, 1 Speed 3-4 Shields and 10-11 HP for 11 mana. It is at $108 and therefore 6x. Even when considered, that there are a lot more copies of Harklaw and some abilities might not be en par to those of Caladuum, while others are a lot better, I think that 50% of the price of Caladuum is something we could easily see in the close future. And therefore a 3x to Harklaws price might be a conservative midterm bet.

Conclusion

Regarding price it seems like the common cards are those that have the biggest potential to see amazing returns over the midterm and even more long term. The biggest uncertainty is what Chaos Legion brings. Also if, and if so, by how much, the player base is growing. If we see a growth that is only a little like the one we have seen in Q2 and Q3 of this year, everything will just go up by a lot. If not, it depends more, on what cards Chaos Legion will drop. Are there similar card or counters to some of them. What new abilities are going to be added?

I think that the more expensive the cards are, the higher the risks. I don’t think that common cards will be under $0.1 per card ever again – at least for longer periods of time. Therefore at time of writing, only the Pelacor Mercenary has a "big" downwards potential within the common cards. But compared to a 50-100x that could be added to its value – and if we add to the consideration, that there are a lot bigger numbers of printed cards, maybe even 10-20x, the risks are not too big. And $4 for a card, that could be as good as Flesh Golem? I don’t think that this is going to be the final price.
It is also not likely that the rare, epic and legendary cards will always stay at those prices. But it is not unlikely, that they will decrease or at least stagnate over weeks or maybe even months. So don't rush into them too fast, but keep an eye on them, as long as they are still cheap. It is most likely that as long as the player base is growing, those cards will spike in price as soon as they're out of print!
