Another Battle Challenge with this time with Dragons!

image.png

We got five new Dragons with Chaos Legion so far, all being legendary cards. Quix the Devious is a legendary summoner, giving -1 speed and -1 ranged. It is neither on top, nor at the bottom of the legendary summoners, at least in my opinion. -1 Speed is almost always applicable and with the current changes in the meta, especially the new life ranged meta, -1 ranged is also not too bad. Still it is far from Summoners like Mimosa, Llama, Kitty and Yodin in my opinion.

Check out my battle:

Dragons

Never the less, I choose Quix, since I got one higher level delegated, which helped to play amazing cards!

Lore

Quix had wandered the chaos realm for so long, he’d almost forgotten where his life had begun. Most of the memories only came to him in dreams now, flashes of images that were hard to connect and make any sense of. It was only when he came upon the Ravaged Void and rested by its black well that something stirred within him. It prompted a deep hunger for mana and he became obsessed with magic. Not only that, but the images he saw in his dreams became clearer and he witnessed great dragons. Some of them were native to the realm of chaos and some looked completely alien. Their nature appealed to him and demanded his attention, and so he remained by the void where over time his power grew, the vast emptiness filling him with potent energy.

At first he found that he could levitate and even consume fragments of time, taking it away from other beings and slowing them down. Soon after he realised the ability to interrupt projectiles inflight, as though an invisible hand had snatched them from the air. But what began to frustrate him was his capacity to summon. He could conjure up all manner of monsters and creatures from the ether but there was no elemental basis to any of them, and what he really wanted was to rouse the mighty dragon. The will of a dragon is strong though and try as he might, the task became impossible.

Quix flew into a terrible rage and destroyed the makeshift home he had made around the Ravaged Void. Enticed by the bright flashes of destructive power that he had cast, a void dragon came to him, curious and fascinated by his magic ability. However, the dark fury that had consumed Quix would not leave him and when the dragon came near, he set about it with his knives. Because it was only young and due to the power that emanated from him, he quickly over came it, killing the pitiful beast with no remorse. He didn’t stop there though, his anger demanding that he take a trophy from the being that refused to be summoned by his will alone. Cutting the fangs from its maw, he created a gruesome necklace. But his ire wasn’t sated though and so he gouged out its eyes, tasting some of the power that lay within.

He soon found that having crafted these talismans’, his capacity to summon was enhanced. He could now call forth the Void Dragon at will, the grisly totem amplifying his ability. With the realisation of this obscene turn in events, Quix set out immediately in a quest to gather as many tokens as possible from the dragons. Whether it meant raiding their nests, scavenging from corpses or killing them unawares, he didn’t care, and always managed to walk away with his prize.

Of course when the Chaos Rift was established and a doorway to the new world opened, Quix was eager to visit the Splinterlands and find new dragon trophies to add to his collection, expanding upon his already lethal repertoire of monsters.
Sometimes death was necessary, an unavoidable pursuit in attaining the means to an end. Other times it was a struggle, a grinding effort that until it was fulfilled, one could never achieve the ultimate goal. But there were occasions that death and destruction could be fun, and Quix was all about having fun. Life was far too mundane and tedious, not having any fun would make it completely pointless.

Removing the great horn from his pack, Quix held it before him with both hands. The weight of it still surprised him now and he had to use a small glimmer of his power to be able to lift it into the air. It wasn’t his greatest trophy and in truth, scavenging talismans from the dead in such a way had started to cause him an element of embarrassment and he tried to avoid it wherever possible. But, when you’re dealing with powerful beasts, it was the only sure way to go about it. Safe was boring though, which was why you needed to have a bit of fun.

Quix looked down upon the small village at the water’s edge. He could see children running between the huts and a small group of fishermen about to embark upon the lake. Feeling the mana build inside, he focussed it all upon the horn he was holding, a blue fuzz shimmering about his hands and tingling along his arms. There came the usual brief battle of wills, but with his totem in hand the creature couldn’t refuse, and Quix pulled its essence through the vortex to appear in the sky above the settlement.

It beat its wings for a brief moment, surprise at the sudden change in environment quickly turning to annoyance, and then bestial anger. Screams drifted up from the village as people spotted the flying behemoth and began to frantically run about in panic. It was pointless though and only seemed to enrage the dragon further. Electric blue energy gathered about the cobalt scales, prickling and humming, eager to be free. And then it released its attack, jagged bolts of lightning shooting from its jaws and striking homes and people, incinerating them with indiscriminate fury and leaving behind the charred, smoking remains.

Quix grinned. Lightning dragons were quickly becoming one of his favourites.

The Rule Set:

image.png

Stampede and 46 mana with only fire and dragon allowed. There are a few trample cards in Chaos Legion, that are available early on, but for fire it is a higher level ability and I don't have Desert Dragon or Mighty Dricken. Same for my opponent. So it was like a Standard rule set, with only fire and dragon splinter available.

My Team:

The Summoner: Quix the Devious - Dragon #1

image.png

As already said, Quix is a very mediocre legendary summoner, although he can be first choice in some rule sets.
Right now he is trading for around $47 per BCX and $500 for a gold foil copy. With a level 1 Quix you are set for Bronze level caps, with a level 2 for Silver and with a level 3 for Gold caps. So if you are lucky and get two gold foils in your packs, you are set up to Gold cap and probably are also able to compete in low rank diamond.

First Position: Djinn Chwala - The Second Dragon

image.png

Little Mylor or Baby Mylor is an epic reward card of the Chaos Legion reward cards. I did an analysis on him already.
For the last few days and weeks it dropped, like most cards, a lot in prize. Right now it is listed around $2 per BCX. It isn't the best card or the card with the highest potential to increase in prize. But it is quite a good and well balanced front tank and can also do good work as a Sneak defender.

Second Position: Gargoya Devil

image.png

Gargoya Devil was featured in this post.
Right now it is listed at around $0,32-0,40 per BCX. So yes, it is quite cheap.

Third Position: Lava Launcher

image.png

Another epic Chaos Legion reward card. Also part of my analysis series (same post like Djinn Chwala).
It also dropped to around $2. It didn't get a boost nor a nerf with Chaos Legion, regarding the summoner. Since Tarsa is very similar to Malric, it doesn't really make a huge difference.

Fourth Position: Elemental Phoenix

image.png

The only Alpha/Beta card for me this challenge. Starting with 2 Maic Attack, 5 Speed and 8 HP with the flying ability, this is quite an extraordinary card for fire, since fire is heavy on Melee and Ranged attackers - at least within the meta. It was my first time playing Elemental Phoenix and I also got it delegated.
With level 2 it gets another magic attack and blast and level 3 ads magic reflect. Level 4 completes its moveset with another magic attack and dodge. So yes, it is a really a very nice card. But 7 mana isn't cheap.

1 BCX starts at around $200 and the cheapest is at $95 for a 11 BCX maxed out version.

Fifth Position: Spirit Miner

image.png

It is a reward card and regarding to it cp, it is an old one (before Untamed). So it is likely that he won't be available in modern format.
Starting with 2 Magic, 3 Speed and 6 HP, combined with Dodge, it is a nice off tank. It also has Dodge which helps to evade Melee and Ranged attacks.
With Level 2 it gets Swiftnesss, giving a +1 Speed Boost to all cards, with level 3 it blinds all hit cards, making Melee and Ranged Attackers miss 15% more often.
It is quite an expensive card, starting at a low BCX of $88 for 3 BCX or around $115 for a single BCX.

Last Position: Tenyii Striker

image.png

Last position is Tenyii Striker, one of the new Chaos Legion cards as well, and one of the new Starter Deck. Being a rare card, it has 8 levels. Starting with 2 melee attack, 2 speed, 6 HP and sneak, getting another attack at level 3, 6 and 8,another speed at 2 and 7 and another HP at level 5, as well as dodge at level 4 and backfire at level 7 it is a great Sneak Tank.
Right now a single copy starts at $0,90 per BCX.

Opponent Team:

image.png

My opponent went pure fire with Malric, Living Lava, Fineas Rage, Serpentine Spy, Sand Worm, Lava Launcher and Ettin Spearman.

The Battle:

image.png

It was a speedy battle with many of my cards being speed boosted, without a Pyre, while his being slowed. After the first round I was through his tank, while he destroyed some of my backline.

image.png

The second round was a bloodshed, destroying most of our front line and leaving him with a Lava Launcher and Ettin Spearman, while I still had a Gargoya Devil, Lava Launcher, Elemental Phoenix and Spirit Miner, all being able to attack.

image.png

So it was me going through its Lava Launcher and then (not so) slowly finishing the Ettin Spearman in a short third and last round.

Analysis:

Speed and Blast were king, with the huge damage potential. So it worked as planned.
I am hoping to get a high level summoner to finally be able to play stronger cards more often, but it still will take some time.

Cheers,
@andy-plays
