Ignored Close Range, Let's Focus on Winning

photo_2024-02-13_03-44-50.jpg

Hello guys!
Yeeeeey I'm back again with my Splinterlands post. This is my second post to follow Splinterlands Mage Secrets Battle Challenge Close Range. With these rulesets, all range monster can still perform attacks even though they are in first position even without special abilities.

Like I said before, These rulesets have recently become very difficult to obtain in rank battles. But I finally got these rulesets while playing with my scholarship account with IGN NIGHTMAREINBONE. After a few seasons ago I was always stuck in the silver league in modern, finally this season I can move up to the Gold league again.

Well, I'm nobody, neither a pro-player nor a tournament champion. I'm just happy to share battle strategies in my own sense of view.

Ok guys, without further ado, let's get straight to the main of this post!

Battle Rulesets

There are 3 rulesets in this battle,

  • Counterspell, where all monsters have the ability to Reflect Magic,
  • Opportunity, All Monsters have the Opportunity ability, and
  • Close Range, Where all the monsters of the bus range attack even though they are in the first position.

This battle has a large mana cost, that is 60 with active elements are Water, Earth, Life, and Death.

Line Up and Strategy

Like I said is my first post, there are 3 types of players in utilizing these rulesets, that is anticipating with range attacks, or doing full attacks with range monsters, or not being affected by rulesets, in the sense of still playing with other strategies such as doing full sneak or full magic attacks, or other strategies that are not related to range monsters.

In this battle, I will use the last strategy, where I will ignore that the Close Range rulesets seem to have no effect on the battle strategy that I will apply while focusing on other strategies to achieve victory. If you look at the active elements and the three rulesets above, then the best strategy is to maximize the use of Melee and Range monsters, because with Counterspell rulesets, using Magic monsters without the ability to Reeflection Shield or Void is suicide.

Speaking of the second ruleset, namely Opportunity, the target of the attack will be the monster with the smallest HP, so using Taunt monster will be very useful for protecting important monsters that only have small HP. And for attack strategies, using monsters with high speed and also large damage can also be considered.

Compared to using Range monsters that usually have stats with small HP, Melee monsters have more stats with Attack and larger HP. So the strategy I chose was to use as many monster Melee as possible, and the Summoner I chose was the one that would support the strategy. So I compiled the li-up like the table below:

MonsterPositionAbilitiesStrategy
Possibilus the WiseSummoner+2 HP, Trample, Reach
BaakjiraFirstVoid, Slow, Strengthen, Heal
Kulu MastermindSecondWeapons Training, Opportunity
DiemonsharkThirdTrample, Enrage
Coastal SentryFourthDouble Strike, Piercing
Swamp SpitterFifthRepair, Giant Killer
Legionaire AlvarLastVoid Armor, Giant Killer, Demoralize

You can see the line-up of both teams from the picture below. Opponents use Earth elements with Summoner IMMORTALIS who has abilities of -1 HP, Void, and Shatter.

CONCLUSSION

The strategy I implemented worked well even though I ignored the Close Range rulesets. Each ruleset will inevitably result in different strategic considerations. There is no need to impose a certain strategy in battle, but the main goal is that winning can be achieved.
