BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! Silenced Summoners!

[Source]

Hi everyone! It's time for the weekly Battle Mage Secrets challenge and the challenge this week is the Silenced Summoners Ruleset.

About the Ruleset

Silenced Summoners

The Silenced Summoners ruleset states that "Summoners do not give any stat buffs or debuffs or grant/use any abilities". This means that we can only rely on the abilities of the monsters for our battles. However, you will still be able to use monsters supported by the level of the summoners.

Battle Ruleset(s)

Details of my battle with this ruleset is as follows.

PositionNameDescription
1Cursed WindekuIt has a good attack and high health, and the Thorns ability to reflect melee damage, which makes it a very good tank.
2RiftwingIt has no attack, but has the Flying, Scavenger and the Backfire ability, making it very good secondary tank.
3Venari BonesmithIt has low attack and health, but has the Life Leech and Poison ability, allowing it to build up its health as it attacks, and a chance to poison the monsters it attacks.
4RevealerIt's Stun ability comes in very handy, which a chance to prevent the stunned opponent from attacking for a round.
5Ravenhood WardenIt has a decent attack and has the Protect ability, which helps the deck tack addition physical damage.
6Skok DuskblightI chose this for the last position has it has a decent Magic attack and also a decent amount of health to last longer against backline attacks.

Strategy

The ruleset here meant that (1) Summoners are basically useless except for providing the level support, and (2) roughly only half your deck can be used - the even mana ones.

I chose the Death Splinter as the monsters have a good range of abilities that come in handy, such as Thorns, Backfire, Poision and Stun. The idea here was to cripple the opponent's monsters in the first position as much as possible and to take it down as fast as possible. My monsters will concentrate their attacks on the first position.

The opponent opted to use the Light Splinter, with some interesting abilities too, such as Taunt, Tank Heal and Double Strike. The use of Taunt ensures that Pelacor Arbalest, which is the main attack here, will not be targeted first, should I employ a backline attack.

I think main hero for my win is the Revealer, whose Stun ability kicked in most of the time, and reducing the number of attacks on my deck. It was a little unfortunate that Backfire from Riftwing didn't take effect but thankfully it wasn't a deal breaker.

Thoughts on the Silenced Summoners Ruleset

I think Silenced Summoners is another ruleset put you and your opponent on more equal footing, since the opponent is unable to use Legendary cards with skills that is almost impossible to counter with the Summoners you own. For such battles, it would be ideal to use your highest level Summoner with the lowest mana cost, so that you can get a little more advantage with more mana for your monsters.
