Hi everyone! It's time for the weekly Battle Mage Secrets challenge and the challenge this week is the Even Stevens Ruleset.

About the Ruleset

Even Stevens

The Even Stevens ruleset states that "Only Monsters with even Mana costs may be used in battles". This means that only around half your deck is available for use and some strategies that you usually employ may not be so feasible.

Details of my battle with this ruleset is as follows.

Melee Mayhem: Melee attack Monsters can attack from any position
Even Stevens: Only Monsters with even Mana costs may be used in battles
Only the Water, Earth, Life and Dragon Splinters can be used

Position	Name	Description
1	Unicorn Mustang	It has high health and has the Void ability, which makes it pretty great as the main tank
2	Grund	It is high health too and has the Double Strike ability, and great here since the ruleset allows it to attack from any position.
3	Magi of Chaos	It's in third position and is meant to be one of the main magic damage dealers.
4	Queen Mycelia	It has the Protect ability and is here to provide additional Shields to my deck.
5	Goblin Psychic	It has the Heal ability to allow the first 2 cards to last longer and also here as one of the main magic damage dealers.
6	Khymer Princess	I only had 2 mana left, and this was perfect to fill up the last slot.

Strategy

The combination of rulesets here meant that only even cost cards can be used
and that melee monsters can attack the tank from any position

Given these 2 combinations, a good strategy would be to have shields up and use a combination of cards with Double Strike ability and magic attacks. So I come up with a deck that tanks against physical and magical attacks, has the Double Strike ability, magic attacks and also has shields and heals

The opponent has a similar idea, without the Double strike. As such, my damage output was considerably higher than his, which allowed me to win this battle with relative ease.

Thoughts on the Equalizer Ruleset

The Even Stevens ruleset is a fairly challenging ruleset, as it depletes the number of cards that can be selected for the battle. One way to expand the number of cards that can be used is to use the Dragon splinter. That will allow a greater selection of cards to be used in the battle.
