Hi everyone! It's time for the weekly Battle Mage Secrets challenge and the challenge this week is the Rise of the Commons Ruleset.

About the Ruleset

Rise of the Commons

The Rise of the Commons ruleset states that "Only Common and Rare Monsters may be used in battles". This means both opponents start on almost equal footing as the Epic and Legendary cards cannot be used. Strategies used and the abilities that the higher-level Common and Rare cards have become more critical as well.

Position	Name	Description
1	Fungus Flinger	This is here for the Martyr ability, as the Born again ruleset will allow Martyr to activate twice. At level 5, the Fingus Flinger also gains the Blind ability which gives the opponent an additional 15% chance to miss.
2	Regal Peryton	It has the Flying ability and together with the faster speed from Fungus Flinger, can allow it to dodge a substantial number of attacks.
3	Venari Scout	It has the Opportunity ability and will target the lowest health monster from the opponent's team first.

Strategy

The ruleset here meant that (1) no Epic and Legendary monsters usage, (2) All the monsters in the deck will resurrect once with 1 health.

In the Born Again ruleset, it's good to use monsters with the Martyr ability, as they will allow adjacent monsters to gain stats twice. The strategy here is to reduce the opponent's chance of hitting my monsters. Hence, Fungus Flinger is chosen here instead of the Venari Marksrat.

The opponent made use of General Sloan with Pelacor Conjurer as the first monster. This is a very good counter to Magic attacks which is my main attacking monster for this strategy. Fortunately for me, the odds were for me this time and the opponent missed hitting Regal Peryton mostly after the Martyr ability kicked in.

Thoughts on the Rise of the Commons

The Rise of the Commons ruleset puts both teams on almost equal footing and the strategy used becomes more important. Luck will play a small part in the battle as well. Summoners are not affected by this rule, so summoners like Grandmaster Rathe, together with monsters with more Shields will be a strategy that is tough to beat.
