Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge! Aimless!
Hi everyone! It's time for the weekly Battle Mage Secrets challenge and the challenge this week is the Aimless Ruleset.
About the Ruleset
The Aimless ruleset states that "All Monsters have the Scattershot ability". This means monsters with ranged and magic attacks will attack the opponent in a random order, and how the battle progresses is rather unpredictable.
Battle Ruleset(s)
Details of my battle with this ruleset is as follows.
Armored Up: All Monsters have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor set
Mana Cap: 25
Available Splinters: Fire, Water, Earth, Death and Dragon
Format: Modern
Cards & Line Up
Summoner: Thaddius Brood - This decreases the Magic attack and Health of my opponent's deck by 1.
Position 4 | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Position | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Crypt Beetle | This is a good low mana tank for the Death Splinter, with its Shield ability. |
2 | Riftwing | It has the Flying, Scavenger and Backfire abilities. The Backfire ability is useful in this ruleset, allowing return damage if the opponent misses. |
3 | Venari Bonesmith | It has the Life Leech and Poison ability and will build up health as the battle progresses. Good abilities for this ruleset |
4 | Revealer | It has the Stun ability and is useful in preventing the one of the opponent's monster from attacking. |
5 | Revenhood Warden | It's here to provide the additional shields to the entire deck with its Protect ability. |
6 | Weirding Warrior | It has the Shatter ability and is useful in removing shields from the monster it hits. |
Strategy
The ruleset here meant that (1) attacks will always hit random if you choose to use ranged or magic attack monsters, (2) all monsters will get 2 additional shields.
In the Aimless ruleset, ranged and magic attacks will hit randomly. This makes the attack unpredictable and down to luck on where it hits. Monsters with the Blast ability are great in this ruleset as there'll be splash damage if it hits anywhere between position 2 and 5. I decided on using the Death Splinter as it has the Venari Bonesmith and Revealer which can potential poison and stun the opponent's monsters respectively, giving me a slight advantage.
The opponent used a strategy which gave more predictability as to where the hits will land, as 2 of them have the Sneak ability. Luckily for me, the poison and stun hit when it mattered, with the Backfire damage from Riftwing providing some support, allowing me to win comfortably.
Thoughts on the Aimless Ruleset
The Aimless ruleset is a random ruleset. I don't really like it because of the randomness, and it's possible lose even if you have a better deck than the opponent. One way to get around it is to use mainly Melee monsters to give you the predictability of the attacks. Otherwise, abilities like Poison, Stun, Backfire, Magic Reflect, Return Fire and Blast are great for the ruleset.
