Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge! Up To Eleven
Hi everyone! It's time for the weekly Battle Mage Secrets challenge and the challenge this week is the Up To Eleven Ruleset.
About the Ruleset
The Up To Eleven ruleset states that "All Monsters have the Amplify ability". This means damage returned from the Thorns, Return Fire, and Magic Reflect will be amplified.
Battle Ruleset(s)
Details of my battle with this ruleset is as follows.
Up to Eleven: All Monsters have the Amplify ability
Mana Cap: 35
Available Splinters: Fire, Water, Earth and Dragon
Format: Modern
Cards & Line Up
Summoner
Summoner: Obsidian - This increases the Magic attack of my deck by 1.
Position | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Unicorn Mustang | I love Unicorn Mustang as the main tank, as it has the Void ability to take reduced Magic damage and a large amount of health. |
2 | Queen Mycelia | It has the Protect ability which gives my entire deck 2 shields which is great for taking added damage against backline attacks |
3 | Madcap Magus | It has the Scattershot and Life Leech ability and while the damage is to a random opponent monster, it gains a life each time is does. |
4 | Goblin Psychic | It's here to heal the main tank, and to try to prevent the opponent from healing his tank. |
5 | Regal Peryton | It has high speed and the Flying ability. It's placed in the backline to try to dodge and fend off the attacks from the Super Sneak ruleset. |
6 | Fungus Flinger | It is here to provide additonal stats to Regal Peryton with its Martyr abillity. At level 5, it also has the Blink ability which gives the opponent an addition 15% chance of missing. |
Strategy
The ruleset here meant that (1) the melee monsters will hit the backline first, (2) Monsters with the Thorns, Return Fire, and Magic Reflect will reflect additional damage.
In a Up to Eleven ruleset, it's good to use monsters with the Thorns, Return Fire, and/or Magic Reflect ability, as they will reflect additional damage. Stacked with the Super Sneak ruleset, it makes sense to use the Dragon Splinter and to place Djinn Chwala in the last position. However, the opponent would be expecting a backline attack and I wanted to surprise the opponent with a frontline attack. As such, I decided to forego the advantage given by the Up to Eleven ruleset.
The opponent made use of Possibilus the Wise with its Reach and Trample ability, which is rather deadly whenever the opponent melee monster kills off any of my monster, as it will go on the attack the next. Luckily for me, the opponent used a mix of frontline and backline attack, and the lack of concentrate of attack denied the Trample ability from activating.
Thoughts on the Up to Eleven
The Up to Eleven ruleset can be rather fun. Some summoners like Mylor Crowling, Owster Rotwell and Ilthian has a good advantage allowing all monsters to utilise the Amplify ability from the ruleset. Otherwise, if you can equip your deck with a good mix of monsters with the Thorns, Return Fire, and/or Magic Reflect, it should almost guarantee you a win in the battle.
