Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge! Born Again

[Source]

Hi everyone! It's time for the weekly Battle Mage Secrets challenge and the challenge this week is the Born Again Ruleset.

About the Ruleset

Born Again

The Born Again ruleset states that "All Monsters have the Rebirth ability". All monsters that are killed in this ruleset are resurrected once with 1 health. Monsters are also resurrected with full armor, so it can be irritating if the opponent has Void Armor and stacks with it another Monster with the Rebirth ability, as it is going to be so tough to take that monster down.

Born Again: All Monsters have the Rebirth ability

PositionNameDescription
1Venari MarksratThis is here to provide the effects of the Martyr ability twice for this ruleset.
2Djinn OshannusThis is going to be the main Monster of the deck, with it's Void and Phase ability. Along with it's fast speed, it'll help dodge both physical and melee attacks, while getting higher damage from from Venari Marksrat's Martyr ability.
3Torrent FiendThis is just here to slow the opponent down a little should Djinn Oshannus be taken down.
4Spirit HoarderIt has the Triage and Dispel ability. It's mainly here to dispel away the effects of Martyr from the opponent.
5Chaos AgentThis is placed here to shield Spirit Hoarder a little in case the opponent has a backline attack.

Strategy

The ruleset here meant that (1) all monsters will get resurrected once with 1 health, (2) Melee monsters will gain higher damage and speed upon taking damage while ranged and magic monsters will only gain a higher speed.

For the Reborn Again ruleset, I try to make the most use of the Martyr ability to provide the maximum possible boost to my strongest Monster. Where possible, I'll also stack it with the Rebirth ability. In this battle, the low mana cap didn't allow me sufficient mana points to employ this strategy fully. As such, it was just the Martyr ability with Djinn Oshannus. I also added Spirit Hoarder to dispel the effects of Martyr from the opponent if he also employs the same strategy.

The opponent opted to use a similar strategy, with the difference of using Coeurl Lurker as his main Monster, with Venari Marksrat in the first position. The Coeurl Lurker is an overpowered monster in my opinion, with it's Taunt, Dodge, and Phase ability. If it manages to build up speed through the Martyr ability, it'll be almost impossible to hit. I think the opponent miscalculated, as the Taunt ability concentrated my attacks on the Coeurl Lurker while leaving the Venari Marksrat alone, while the Coeurl Lurker couldn't attack from the second position. It was almost like a walkover for me!

Thoughts on the Born Again Ruleset

The Born Again ruleset is a fun ruleset, where various strategies can be used to frustrate the opponent. One strategy is to stack the use of multiple monsters with the Rebirth ability with the Martyr ability. Another nice strategy is to stack the use of multiple monsters with the Rebirth ability with the use of Void Armor. It can be fun thinking of strategies to counter your opponent too.
