Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge! Aim True!
Hi everyone! It's time for the weekly Battle Mage Secrets challenge and the challenge this week is the Aim True Ruleset.
About the Ruleset
The Aim True ruleset states that "Attacks always hit their targets". This means monsters with abilities Flying, Dodge and Backfire are essentially useless since attacks will always hit.
Battle Ruleset(s)
Details of my battle with this ruleset is as follows.
Aim True: Attacks always hit their targets
Mana Cap: 27
Available Splinters: Fire, Water, Life, Death and Dragon
Format: Modern
Cards & Line Up
Summoner: Thaddius Brood - This decreases the Magic attack and Health of my opponent's deck by 1.
Position 4 | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Position | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Cursed Windeku | This is one of the best tank for the Death Splinter, with its Thorns ability. |
2 | Riftwing | It has the Flying, Scavenger and Backfire abilities. While Backfire is useless in this ruleset, Riftwing has a decent amount of health as the secondary tank. |
3 | Venari Bonesmith | It has the Life Leech and Poison ability and will build up health as the third tank when it comes down to it. |
4 | Revealer | It has the Stun ability and is useful in preventing the tank from attacking. |
5 | Revenhood Warden | It's here to provide the additional shields to the entire deck with its Protect ability. |
6 | Corpse Fiend | It's here to take the initial first 2 damage if the opponent employs a backline attack. |
Strategy
The ruleset here meant that (1) attacks will always hit 100%, (2) only half the monsters (with even mana costs) are available for use
In the Aim True ruleset, attacks will always hit. This makes it attractive to use slow monsters with high damage as it will not miss. It's also better to employ monsters with Shields to slow down the damage taken in such a ruleset. As only even mana cost monsters can be used, and with only a mana cap of 27, I thought my Death Splinter would work the best with it's good mix of even mana cards. Main strategy here is to increase the amount of shields and to make use of the Cursed Windeku to reflect some damage.
The opponent used an identical strategy, with only differences in the card placement. As the cards used are identical, luck plays a big part of who will win the battle. And luck was with me as my Poison and Stuns hit a little more often than the opponent, allowing me to win.
Thoughts on the Aim True
The Aim True ruleset puts high damage Melee and Ranged cards at an advantage, as they will not miss. Faster cards will still have an advantage of attacking first, even though they will not have the advantage of being able to dodge. In such a ruleset, the best strategy is to try to have more overall health and damage output than your opponent.
