SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! GRUND

[Source]

Hi everyone! It's time for the a weekly battle challenge, and the challenge for this week is Grund.

About the Monster

Grund
Grund is an Epic card with a good amount of health (10), 3 Melee attack, 3 Speed and has the Double Strike ability at level 1. It gets the Trample ability at level 4 and Cripple ability and 13 Health at level 6. I am using the level 1 basic version of the card, which is still fairly strong.

PositionNameDescription
1GrundI placed it in the first position as the main tank, as it has 3 Melee attack and the Double Strike ability. While the Double Strike ability may seem like a disadvantage in this ruleset, I thought it'll be offset by the additional Shield from Queen Mycelia and heals.
2Mycelic SlipspawnI used in position 2 so that it'll be attacked first, with its Taunt ability. With Shields from Queen Mycelia and heals from Spirit Hoarder, it'll last a little longer.
3Regal PerytonIt's here to provide Magic damage. At level 3, it gets 3 Magic damage in total with the boost from Obsidian, and usually gets to attack first with its speed of 6.
4Queen MyceliaIt gives the entire team 2 additional Shields with its protect ability and it helps the team last a little longer if the opponent uses Melee or Ranged cards.
5Spirit HoarderIt has the Triage ability to heal backline Monsters and it's main purpose is to heal the Mycelic Slipspawn who is taking most of the damage.
6Goblin PsychicIt has fairly high Magic attack (2+1) and also helps to heal the tank. It's Affliction ability also helps prevents heals from the opponent, if any.

Strategy

The Briar Patch ruleset meant that Melee cards are at a disadvantage, as they'll take damage every time they attack. As such, the strategy to use in such a situation would be a mix of Magic and Ranged attack cards. I choose to use mainly Magic cards as most Ranged cards can't attack when they reach position 1. I also opted to use Grund as the main tank, even though Briar Patch put it at a disadvantage. I felt that the 6 damage that Grund can do each round could offset the 4 damage that it would take, plus it'll get 2 Shield from Queen Mycelia and heals from Goblin Psychic that improves its survivability.

The opponent chose to use the Death Splinter, which Thaddius Brood, which is basically the nemesis of the magic heavy Earth Splinter. Fortunately, with the use of Grund, I managed to take out the first 2 cards relatively quickly and the rest was easy after that. I might have lost if I had opted for my usual strategy of using the Unicorn Mustang as the main tank.

Thoughts on the card

Grund is one of the Melee Earth Splinter cards that I like, as it has good damage and Double Strike, and is an excellent card for doing lots of damage. It's also great for use in rulesets like Equal Opportunity, Melee Mayhem and Super Sneak, where it can attack from any position in the deck.
