Playing Without Playing
After much hesitation and after having tried alternative paths, at last I have surrendered.
Due to the imminent introduction of the new SPS-centric "collection power" system, as well as the fact that as a result of this change I will be forced to play in the Silver League exclusively, unless I wish to receive just a nearly insignificant fraction of the Gold League rewards ( thus completely defeating the utility of playing in a higher league), I finally decided to run a small test, using a bot to play on my behalf.
Yes, I admit that I am not proud of this: I am a full and ardent supporter of the idea that bots in a game should not even exist, let alone be tolerated, but, as we know, the road until Splinterlands reaches this conclusion is still a long one and, consequently, finding myself with the alternative between playing and not playing... I finally chose to play without playing!
Thus, the season that has just ended marks the first one in which all the earnings (with the exception of those related to brawls) were earned by a bot: the rewards gained are far less than those I could have earned by playing myself, but the real difference is in the time I had to spend to get them.
I may have earned very little, but I did not have to play a single moment.
By playing I would have earned more, that is true, but at the cost of how much time spent and committed to a game that, considering the exorbitant cost to access the most interesting and fun Leagues, right now does not in any way allow me to have fun?
If I wanted to, I could use the option of renting and thereby access the Leagues I am interested in, but despite all the improvements made on that front, the reality is that renting is still an activity that requires time and attention, both of which I have less and less available.
As much as I regret it, I have to say that, honestly, this experiment can only be considered a success and a way to continue my growth on Splintelands while awaiting better times - which at this point I don't even know if will ever come.
At least I will see my collection grow a little more and I may hope to, slowly, level up a decent amount of the cards from the Soulbound Rewards set, with the (remote) hope that one day they might be able to help me take that step up that, after almost two years of playing and really too much time spent playing, has never come.

Dopo aver tergiversato a lungo e provato a percorrere strade alternative, alla fine sono capitolato.
Complice l'imminente introduzione del nuovo sistema di "collection power" incentrato sugli SPS, nonchè del fatto che a seguito di questa modifica mi troverò costretto a giocare nella sola Lega Argento, a meno di non voler ricevere una frazione praticamente irrisoria delle ricompense della Lega Gold (così vanificando completamente l'utilità di giocare in una lega superiore), ho finalmente deciso di condurre un piccolo test, utilizzando un bot per giocare al posto mio.
Sì, ammetto di non andarne fiero: sono un totale ed accanito sostenitore dell'idea per cui i bot in un gioco non dovrebbero nemmeno esistere, figuriamoci essere tollerati, ma, come sappiamo, la strada perchè Splinterlands arrivi a questa conclusione è ancora lunga e, perciò, trovandomi di fronte all'alternativa tra giocare e non giocare... infine ho scelto di giocare non giocando!
La stagione appena conclusasi rappresenta quindi la prima in cui tutti i guadagni (con l'eccezione di quelli relativi alle brawls) sono stati ottenuti da un bot: le ricompense ottenute sono di gran lunga inferiori a quelle che avrei potuto guadagnare giocando io, ma la vera differenze è nel tempo che ho dovuto impiegare per ottenerle.
Avrò anche guadagnato poco, ma non ho dovuto giocare nemmeno un secondo.
Giocando io avrei ottenuto di più, è vero, ma a fronte di quanto tempo speso e dedicato ad un gioco che, stante i costi esagerati per accedere alle Leghe più interessanti e divertenti, in questo momento non mi consente in alcun modo di divertirmi?
Volendo potrei ricorrere al renting e accedere così alle leghe che mi interessano, ma nonostante tutte le migliorie apportate su tale fronte, la realtà è che il noleggio è ancora un'attività che richiede tempo ed attenzione, elementi che ho sempre meno a disposizione.
Per quanto quindi mi spiaccia, direi che oggettivamente non posso che considerare questo esperimento un successo ed un modo per continuare la mia crescita su Splintelands in attesa di tempi migliori - che a questo punto non so nemmeno se arriveranno mai.
Quantomeno vedrò crescere ancora un po' la mia collezione e potrò sperare, piano piano, di riuscire a livellare un buon numero delle carte del set Rewards Soulbound, con la (remota) speranza che un domani possano aiutarmi a fare quel salto di qualità che, dopo quasi due anni di gioco e davvero troppo tempo speso a giocare, non è mai arrivato.

What bot are you using to play for you? I suck at the game/have too few cards and too little time, so I have been thinking of using one for a while and hopefully win a few battles now and then.
I'm using this one, which is free and very easy to setup. It's main downside is that it is quite weak, so you will not get many rewards... but even some rewards are better than nothing, if I haven't to play! !LOL

Thanks! That looks quite complicated, having to be installed and run through the terminal... but I'll check it out when I can!
I'll have to read up a bit about what different commands do first before I feel safe doing anything like that 😹

You don't have to use the terminal, as that is used by the bot once you have launched it. And to launch the bot you simply have to click on its .exe file :) then you can (almost) forget about it ahahah
The only other steps you have to do (if you are on windows) are installing "dotnet", setting a txt file with your account data (username and posting key) and setting the bot with a few parameters (always in a txt file).

Well, I'm on a Mac... 😹 So it looked to me like I'd have to use the terminal both to install and to run the thing.
Ouch, that surely change everything and you could be absolutely right! I'm on Windows so for me it worked very well, but maybe for Mac there are better bots

Ho appena letto il tuo post, e sinceramente non posso che farti i complimenti per la tua decisione, visto che, onestamente, la trovo molto saggia, e sinceramente mi chiedo perché non sia arrivato anch'io a fare altrettanto, già da un bel po'...
È infatti abbastanza ovvio, che dovrei decidermi, una buona volta, a prendere anch'io questa scelta, ma, Dio solo sa il perché, finora ho continuato, stupidamente, a rinviare, continuando testardamente a dedicare il mio tempo a questo gioco, che se lo merita sempre meno.
Ogni giorno che passa mi rendo sempre più conto che il tempo che finisco col dedicare a quest'ultimo, risulta essere letteralmente sprecato, e prima o poi dovrò decidermi, per forza, a fare la stessa scelta che hai fatto tu, anche se ammetto che, nel caso, mi ritroverai un po' spiazzato, visto che non so nemmeno cosa devo fare.
Nel caso, magari, col tuo permesso, ti contatterò, in qualche maniera, o su discord, o sulla chat che adesso è apparsa, da qualche tempo, su Peakd, e ti chiederò qualche consiglio sul da farsi.
Se è vero che, molto probabilmente, i guadagni potrebbero essere inferiori, sinceramente avere più tempo a disposizione credo che potrebbe essere impagabile, visto tutte le cose sulle quali sto cercando di concentrarmi, finendo, a volte, al contrario, col distrarmi proprio per dedicare del tempo a qualcosa che non lo merita.

Le considerazioni che hai fatto sono esattamente quelle per cui alla fine mi sono deciso a fare questo passo. E poi è proprio come hai detto te, il tempo guadagnato è tanto e le ricompense, per quanto più basse, non è che poi sfigurino chissà quanto con quelle precedenti... tanto i guadagni erano comunque irrisori anche prima!
Per qualsiasi cosa scrivimi senza problemi! Il bot che sto usando io non è un granché, ma ti assicuro che è semplicissimo da utilizzare e configurare :)

Come ho già detto, neanche a farlo apposta, in ben due commenti precedenti, credo proprio che sia arrivata l'ora, anche per me, di compiere questo passo, se non altro per fare un test, e vedere quello che succede.
Negli ultimi tempi i miei risultati non si possono certo considerare eccezionali, ed al contrario, il tempo da me impiegato per ottenerli, è anche troppo rispetto al mio ritorno, ma, soprattutto, mi porta, spesso, nervosismi che eviterei più che volentieri, visto che già mi bastano quelli derivanti dal lavoro.
Ultimamente, poi, ho iniziato anche altri percorsi, che a volte, per abitudine, finisco per tralasciare, dedicandomi a quella che sta diventando, sempre di più, una perdita di tempo, e direi che la cosa non è più accettabile, anche se, in quanto, ormai, per l'appunto, abitudine, non è facile da scalzare.
Probabilmente già nel weekend ti contatterò, su discord, in privato, per discutere della cosa, e vedere come ci si può organizzare per arrivare al dunque, e poter partire con questo primo test, per comprendere se faccia al caso mio, come fondamentalmente ritengo, e se così non dovesse essere, credo mi basterà tornare sui miei passi, e riprendere la routine alla quale sono ormai abituato.

Per quanto riguarda Golem Overlord, effettivamente, visto anche quanto richiede per entrare, non mi sentirei di consigliartelo, a meno di repentini cambi, in un prossimo futuro, grazie all'arrivo degli NFT, che magari possano ridonare un po' di linfa vitale allo stesso, ma soprattutto al valore dei token.
Per quanto riguarda Terracore, invece, la situazione è leggermente diversa, e secondo me un tentativo si potrebbe ancora fare, visto che, comunque, offre molteplici opportunità, e sembra che lo sviluppo sia continuo, con l'implementazione di novità che mantengono viva l'attenzione nei confronti del gioco.
Devo ammettere, poi, che sono curioso nei confronti del gioco che stai seguendo, anche se l'idea di giocare lo stesso su Discord, semplicemente inviando dei messaggi su delle chat apposite, mi spiazza un po', visto che è lontano da ciò a cui siamo abituati.
Sinceramente, però, sono piuttosto tentato di testarlo, e dargli un'opportunità, per vedere se riuscirà a prendermi, e di conseguenza finirò col continuare a giocare, o se, oppure, me ne stancherò abbastanza velocemente, abbandonandolo.
Se non erro avevi anche fatto una specie di guida, tra i tuoi post, che cercherò di recuperare, così da iniziare a muovere i primi passi sullo stesso.

Sì, tra i post dell'ultimo mese ho scritto una piccola guida per iniziare a giocare a S&S: secondo me un tentativo di merita farlo, soprattutto perché è totalmente gratuito, per cui male che vada avrai solo perso un po' di tempo ad inviare comandi al bot :)
Anche io non gli avrei dato un centesimo ad un gioco del genere, ma poi mi sono trovato preso più di quanto pensassi e, complice anche il fatto di poterci giocare comodamente da telefono senza dover installare niente di particolare, alla fine sto continuando a giocarci con costanza da più di due mesi ormai.

Il link al sito da cui scaricare il bot è questo e l'installazione è semplicissima, senza nemmeno dover installare niente.
Quanto al come mi ci trovo... direi "ni", nel senso che è ottimo per il fatto che un po' di rewards le ottiene, ma che in quanto a prestazioni sfrutta solo una frazione della mia collezione ed in giro si trovano sicuramente bot molto più forti. Io però alla fine volevo qualcosa di semplice, gratuito e poco impegnativo... e da questo punto di vista è perfetto! :)

Grazie mille, appena ho tempo, chissà, forse lo provo. E se ci riesco vedo come funziona a livello di codice, visto che è su git-hub. Chissà non riesca a perfezionarlo. Ma il problema è sempre il tempo.
Sul relativo server Discord c'è una intera sezione dedicata proprio alla modifica ed upgrade del codice, perché lo sviluppatore qualche tempo fa ha messo tutto a disposizione per la community dato che non aveva più abbastanza tempo per stare dietro da solo al progetto :)

Non so neanche da dove si posso partire, per andare alla ricerca di un bot di gioco su Splinterlands, non che mi interessi, un po' di tempo per fare le 24 partite al giorno che il gioco consente di fare bene o male lo trovo sempre, in ogni caso in bocca al lupo per tutto, soprattutto per la tua crescita a livello di SPS, anche io devo concentrarmi su questo aspetto, sto superando i 17K, me ne mancano ancora 4,3, prima di toccare pienamente il livello della futura Lega Oro III...

Per me purtroppo fare quelle 25 partite al giorno era diventato ormai letteralmente un parto: non ne potevo più e alla fine mi portavano via almeno un 40 minuti... davvero troppi per le ricompense misere a cui potevo ambire.
Quanto agli SPS, sono un altro elemento che mi ha fatto un po' desistere dal continuare a giocare, perché ne no talmente pochi che potrei a stento giocare nella Lega Argento I, quando con la mia collezione potrei starmene abbastanza tranquillamente ad Oro... e quindi ho deciso che, se tanto dovevo giocare in Argento, tanto valeva che fosse un bot a farlo al posto mio!
Su S&S ti consiglio di aspettare sempre lo sciamano quando muori e se ancora a livelli bassi, perché il costo della pozione revive è piuttosto alto.
Comunque proprio oggi hanno annunciato che il livello minimo per fare withdraw è il sesto :) ora così sappiamo con esattezza qual è!

Come ben sai sono stato sempre contrario alla scelta di Splinterlands di permettere l'uso dei bots ma non ho mai avuto nulla contro i creatori dei bots e contro gli utilizzatori dei bots e capisco perfettamente le motivazioni della tua scelta.
Il bot che usi essendo gratuito è poco forte ma ci sono altri bots che sono davvero forti anche se costano.
Per quanto riguarda il requisito degli SPS personalmente credo che quando sarà introdotto sarà facilmente superabile noleggiando gli SPS che non dovrebbero costare molto ma ovviamente è necessario aspettare lo switch prima di poter fare calcoli e considerazioni.
Una curiosità, che win rate hai ottenuto con il bot gratuito che stai usando?

Anche io sono totalmente contrario e ammetto di aver fatto questa scelta molto a malincuore e solo dover aver provato a percorrere un po' tutte le strade che erano alla mia portata: purtroppo però, dopo quasi 2 anni di gioco, devo prendere atto che, nonostante i miei sforzi, i miei obiettivi non fanno altro che allontanarsi, invece che avvicinarsi... e dato che, al contempo, il tempo che dovrei dedicare al gioco non diminuisce affatto, alla fine ho dovuto scegliere tra mollare un po' tutto (eccetto le brawls, che però così mi impedirebbero quantomeno di poter noleggiare la mia collezione) oppure passare "al lato oscuro" del gioco, ed abbracciare proprio quei bot che, in pratica, sono i responsabili della situazione stessa in cui sono venuto a trovarmi (perchè, alla fine, se tutte le mie carte non sono mai aumentate di valore, la colpa è in buona parte delle bot farms, che ne hanno così tante copie da parte da poter inondare costantemente il mercato...).
La mia paura sul requisito degli SPS è che, per quanto poco possano costare le deleghe, si tratterebbe comunque di una spesa che andrebbe a pesare ulteriormente sui miei già ridottissimi margini di guadagno, che già così erano a malapena sufficienti a controbilanciare la perdita di valore dei miei assets.

Considerato che più o meno la mia collezione andrebbe bene per Argento I, alla fine devo dire che il bot si è comportato anche meglio di quanto pensassi: sicuramente con uno a pagamento le cose andrebbero anche meglio, ma poi chissà se rientrerei mai della spesa sostenuta...
