Quality Over Quantity!
Among the latest rulesets introduced by the Splinterlands team is "Five Alive", which limits the maximum number of creatures we can deploy to 5, regardless of mana available. In this week's Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge we therefore have to choose our cards even more carefully and emphasise quality over quantity.
The Five Alive ruleset therefore doesn't alter any battle rules. Sometimes, in fact, if the mana available is low, its presence will even be irrelevant and we won't notice any difference!
Where the ruleset does make a difference is when there is a lot of mana available: in these cases, we can usually choose up to 6 creatures and make the most of our collection. When the Five Alive ruleset is active, however, we necessarily have to play without a creature, so it becomes even more important to select each creature carefully.
Giving up a creature can either reduce our offensive or defensive ability, and it's up to us to figure out which to sacrifice, or how to counterbalance it using the other creatures on the battlefield. A formation that usually works with six creatures isn't necessarily effective with five, so it might be a good idea to rethink our strategy from scratch and rely on new and unexpected synergies.
Let's move onto the battlefield!
Let us then analyse a game played with this ruleset:
5 creatures against 5: both my opponent and I use the available mana to deploy the maximum number of creatures allowed by the 'Five Alive' ruleset: my idea is to deploy the strongest creatures in the first positions, allowing those at the back to do as much damage for as long as possible.
My opponent opts for a similar formation, but his tank proves to be practically useless against my magic attacks, while Gargoya Lion, thanks to the void ability and synergy with the Summoner Thaddius Brood, almost completely nullifies all enemy attacks.
The game proceeds at best for my team and after two turns my formation is still intact, while the enemy's continues to suffer losses.
My team's superiority is overwhelming and Gargoya Lion holds out until the end preventing my opponent from doing any damage to my team: despite the limited number of creatures deployed, the synergy between my cards is perfect!
MVP of the match
Gargoya Lion undoubtedly deserves the MVP role, proving to be the perfect tank for this situation.

The right synergy between Summoner and ability, combined with the fortune of an opponent who opts for a large number of magic attackers, allows my team to achieve a nice victory and dominate the 'Five Alive' ruleset.
Who knows if next time the challenge will be even higher? :)

Qualità Più Che Quantità!
Tra gli ultimi ruleset introdotti dal team di Splinterlands abbiano "Five Alive", che limita il numero massimo di creature che possiamo schierare a 5, a prescindere dal mana a disposizione. Nella Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge di questa settimana dobbiamo quindi scegliere con ancor maggior attenzione le nostre carte e dare più rilievo alla qualità che alla quantità.
Il ruleset Five Alive non altera quindi alcuna regola di battaglia: alle volte, anzi, se il mana a disposizione è poco la sua presenza sarà addirittura irrilevante e non noteremo alcuna differenza!
Dove invece il ruleset ha un rilievo è quando il mana a disposizione è tanto: in questi casi, infatti, di solito possiamo scegliere fino a 6 creature e sfruttare al massimo la nostra collezione. Quando però il ruleset Five Alive è attivo dobbiamo necessariamente fare a meno di una creatura e diventa quindi ancora più importante selezionare ogni creatura con la massima attenzione.
Rinunciare ad una creatura può ridurre la nostra capacità offensiva o quella difensiva e starà a noi capire cosa convenga sacrificare nel caso concreto o come tentare di controbilanciare questo elemento grazie alle altre creature presenti sul campo di battaglia: non è infatti detto che una formazione che funziona di solito con sei creature sia comunque efficace con cinque, per cui potrebbe essere una buona idea ripensare da zero la nostra strategia e fare affidamento su nuove ed inaspettate sinergie.
Spostiamoci sul Campo di Battaglia!
Passiamo allora ad analizzare una partita disputata con questa regola di gioco:
5 creature contro 5: sia io che il mio avversario sfruttiamo il mana a disposizione per schierare il massimo numero di creature consentire dal ruleset "Five Alive": la mia idea è quella di schierare le creature più resistenti nelle prime posizioni, consentendo a quelle nelle retrovie di fare danni il più a lungo possibile.
Il mio avversario opta per una formazione simile, ma il suo tank si rivela praticamente inutile contro i miei attacchi magici, mentre Gargoya Lion, grazie all'abilità void ed alla sinergia con l'Evocatore Thaddius Brood, annulla quasi completamente tutti gli attacchi nemici.
La partita procede al meglio per il mio team e dopo due turni la mia formazione è ancora intatta, mentre quella nemica continua a subire perdite.
La superiorità della mia squadra è schiacciante e Gargoya Lion resiste fino alla fine impedendo al mio avversario di fare un qualsiasi danno al mio team: nonostante il numero ridotto di creature schierate, la sinergia tra le mie carte è perfetta!
MVP della partita
Gargoya Lion merita senza ombra di dubbio il ruolo di MVP, rivelandosi il tank perfetto per questa situazione.

La giusta sinergia tra Evocatore ed abilità, unita alla fortuna di un avversario che opta per un gran numero di attaccanti magici, consente alla mia squadra di ottenere una bella vittoria e di dominare il ruleset "Five Alive".
Chissà se la prossima volta la sfida sarà ancora più elevata? :)
