Archmage Courier Case Study How to Escape Bot Hell.gif

The Archmage greets you all again.

Today's Courier contains further information about the advice given in the last issue and how that advice was formulated. By describing the methods and reasoning, it is hoped you might be able to apply the same logic and be guided towards some picks of your own.

IProto's Picks

First up is the selection from @iproto. He started with a new account. He then rented it every CL card at Bronze caps. Finally, he set Archmage to run the account up to 1000 rated. It ran as follows: Wins: 73 Losses: 41 Draws: 2 (Win%: 62.93 / Win% Excluding Draws: 64.04 Failed Runs: 0).

Here is a chart of its progress:

He then made a raw list of the cards that were used:

This list in itself should be very useful to you.

IProto presented the same data here by hand with a more clear layout:

Again, this chart alone should be more than enough to guide you to some of your own picks. The final list as seen in the previous How to Escape Bot Hell was formed from the above data.

AlmightyMelon's Picks

Less effort and more instinct went into these picks. They are all Untamed-frame rewards cards. The logic is to try to extend the Starter set. The bot selects hands by how many wins and losses that formation has.

Sometimes, though, a high quality formation is filtered out because only a single card is not owned. This is especially true at Bronze, where over half of @almightymelon's bots reside. Therefore, expanding the Starter collection of Level 1 cards to include recent Commons and Rares that have been given away as rewards will increase the search space, and you may find more quality hands. Rewards that are out of print will also be owned by fewer other players and their bots.

AlmightyMelon notes that some of his own opinion as to the usefulness of the cards comes into play here, but some of them are included specifically as cards that have seen play by the bot also. Another strategy is raised here: watch which cards Archmage uses to win and upgrade those.

imp0stor's Picks

The picks from @imp0stor were more than just a joke. They were the result of a lengthy discussion about the most cost-effective Epic cards to purchase to improve bot performance. In the same way that Rewards cards increase the number of hands available to you, so too do Epics and Legendaries.

It was settled on after some debate that Grund and Grum represent good value right now in what they add to your deck whether you are a human player or a player managing a bot roster.

Expect more high-quality analysis from IProto:

He also did some analysis of the summoners in the above data. You can expect that in the next 'How to Escape Bot Hell' post which will have its subject dedicated solely to summoners.

May the above information from Archmage be useful to you in your battles.

Yet another great article, keep them coming.
I'm using many of the same cards, it's interesting to see where we differ.
