My collateral damage strategy : WEAKEN
For this weeks Splinterlands Social Media challenge(orginal post can be seen here -> https://peakd.com/hive-13323/@splinterlands/splinterlands-social-media-challenge-t6o3lz

I have a harder time adapting to some rule sets in Splinterlands then others. The new Shapeshift happens for example is just funny because it means if you play an archon that has a bloodline buff like Kaylia, you get EVERYONE from all the active splinters. Or earthquake which means you might want more fliers or folks with shield. One rule set that I've struggled to adapt to is Collateral damage. If you haven't memorized it yet, this is the rule set in which everyone has reckless, which means that every time they attack they do one damage adjacent to them.
In most games I struggle with any mechanic that requires you to harm your own units. For this reason I don't use a lot of units with reckless or with pain-forged, and bloodline tribute has also not been popular for me. Not because they can't be powerful, but because it's just not a natural way for me to strategize. It's one thing to put Uladin Overseer up front to protect whomever is in the 2nd position, it's another to be like, yeah, please delete this guy so everyone else is buffed. We all have our quirks.
So for this post I'm going to be showing how I dealt with collateral damage in a fight.
Here's the full ruleset
Fire, death, earth and dragon active. Collateral damage and taking sides. No neutral units, with life and water inactive my favorite archon, Elaise is out.

Since I've yet to come up with a really successfull strategy with collateral damage I tried something new. I focued on hitting hard and lowering my opponents health.
So I ended up with the following line up

Archon - Kaylia - Lowers magic, gives me elves(which both my units with weaken are), and gives my elven bloodline units execute.
Place 1 - Quillion Legionare - Close range, prickly. When combined with amplify from Lord Thanolorian, getting hit does 2 damage.
Place 2 - Lord Thanolorian - Lots of health, a bit of armour, 3 magic damage. Since theres 67 mana to spend his higher mana cost is not a problem.
Place 3 - Rune Arcanist - decent health, and weaken.
Place 4- Sorrow weaver - I was hesitant about her. The 3 health means she's not gonna last long. But I went with it anyway. That second weaken is key.
Place 5 - Fenmoor Woodtroll - lots of health and armour, blind means the other guys might miss, and wing breacker means flying units go down.
Grove Doomblade - 5 damage, hits the rear. Wish her speed was higher but hey.
So seeing Nidhogrr I was actually pretty sure I was going to lose. They are a vicious archon.
But lets see what it looks like after all the opening buffs and debuffs go on.

We've got my double weaken reducing my opponents health by two and everyones blinded, exceptive their tank whose got immunity. Their magic attacks are also reduced by one thanks to Kaylia. lucky them. They've also chosen to give the tactic of death blow and explosive blast to Thraghun, Night Reaper and Arachene Weaver.
Things move quickly.

Round one isn't even done and and we've both lost one unit. Sorrow weaver went down fast like I anticipated, however, they did make it so a single reckless attack took out my opponents Arachne weaver so they weren't pointless.
However a few more moves later and I'm convinced I'm going to lose.

My tank is down, and it seems like the rest of my units aren't going to have much of a chance.
But I should have had more faith.

Doomblade took out the Night reaper, Lord Thanalorian took out my opponents tank, and shortly after that The Rune arcanist finished off Thraghun. And the Briar Maw was made quick work of after that.
All in all a successful strategy. I also need to be cautious about folks who attack twice as that means collateral damage attacks twice.
Thanks for reading!
And since this is social media, what's a rule set you struggle with?

Well thought out strategy and not against a weak opponent so it worked really well, good job!
Thank you!
You wanna bet? lol Keep it up Kylin!!!
I have only slightly above 50% win average sooo....
I don't really like this ruleset. But this strategy could be worth a try!
It's not my fav either. Shape shift happens is probably one of my favs of the new ones. It's funny. But this strat plus a bunch of high health no attakers could also work.
Yees, that is great! Especially if u have a good Conclave Arcana Archon. :)
