Splinterlands Weekly Challenge — Fog Of War ruleset
Welcome everyone👋, I'm back again with a new post for the Splinterlands BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge!
Every week there is a new ruleset for this challenge, this time it is for:
Fog Of War: |
---|
Monsters lose the Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities. |
As the description of this ruleset says, all Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities will not work in battle, meaning all enemy attacks will go to the monster in the first position, unless there is a monster in the backline with the Taunt ability, in which case it will be attacked first.
Monsters with Ranged and Magic attacks are usually the best choice with this ruleset, since melee monsters will only be able to attack from first and second position (if they have the Reach ability).
-Units with the Scattershot ability are not affected by this ruleset as they attack random enemies, so they may have a chance to attack backline monsters.
-Knowing that monsters with magic and ranged attacks will probably be used, we can use the Silence or Headwinds abilities to reduce magic or ranged attacks by -1, respectively. Additionally, units with the Magic Reflect and Return Fire abilities will deal damage equivalent to the attacker's damage divided by 2, rounded up, if the enemy attacks with magic or ranged monsters, respectively.
-Although monsters in the backline cannot be attacked , they can still be damaged by monsters with the Blast ability, allowing them to deal additional damage to Monsters adjacent to the target Monster (the additional damage is equivalent to main damage divided by 2, rounded up). You can take advantage of this by using Martyr monsters in the second position, who upon death will give adjacent monsters +1 to all stats making them stronger.
-The Heal, Tank Heal, and Triage abilities will be useful to restore the health of allied monsters that have taken damage.
-Units with the Divine Shield ability will ignore the first time they take damage.
-The Lookout ability (adjacent allies taking one less damage from attackers with Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity ) is not useful with the Fog of War ruleset.
This time I will analyze a high-ranking battle in the modern format in the champions league between Khazrakh VS EMP-Warden. Now let's go to the battlefield:
Fog of War | Earthquake | Blood and Sunder |
Monsters lose the Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities. | Non-Flying monsters take 2 melee damage at the end of each round. | All monsters gain Corrosive Ward at the start of the battle. |
The first player starts with Avina of the Wolf as his summoner, which makes him choose to give +2 Speed to two units or give the Heal ability to one unit.
In the frontline position is Chaos Agent, who has the Dodge ability with a 25% chance of evading attacks, also the Phase ability that allows him to miss enemy magic attacks (using the same hit/miss calculation as melee and ranged attacks) and the Backfire ability which will deal 2 melee damage if an enemy misses an attack on this unit.
In second position is Soul Fiend, who will grant its entire team the Swiftness ability, increasing speed by 1.
In third position is Grimbardun Smith, who has Immunity to negative status effects, also the Void and Shield ability that will reduce the damage received from magic and melee attacks by 50% respectively. Additionally, it will Repair one-third of the max armor of the friendly unit whose armor has taken the most damage each turn.
In fourth position, Aves Sturgis will give +3 magic attack to its adjacent allies thanks to its Weapons Training ability, it also has the Rust ability that will reduce the enemy's armor by -2, and finally the first time this unit takes damage it will be ignored because it has the Divine Shield ability.
And in the last position is Pelacor Conjurer, who has the Flying ability having a 25% chance of evading non-flying attacks, it also has the Magic Reflect ability which will damage whoever attacks him for half the damage received if it is a magic attack, and the Phase ability that allows him to miss enemy magic attacks (using the same hit/miss calculation as melee and ranged attacks). Additionally, it has the Divine Shield ability.
The second player, like his opponent, also uses Avina of the Wolf as his summoner.
In the frontline position, he also uses Grimbardun Smith but in the frontline position.
In second position, Moxian Rebel will give +3 magic attack to her adjacent allies thanks to her Weapons Training ability.
In fourth position is Karst Harpy, who has the Flying ability with a 25% chance to evade non-flying melee or ranged attacks, it also has the Scattershot ability that allows it to attack a random enemy.
Like his opponent, he also uses Pelacor Conjurer and Soul Fiend but in the third and fifth position respectively.
Both players chose to give the Avina of the Wolf summoner's Heal ability to their corresponding Grimbardun Smith.
-Khazrakh Team:
- Everyone gets +1 Speed from the Soul Fiend's Swiftness ability.
- Grimbardun Smith and Pelacor Conjurer get +3 magic attack from
Aves Sturgis' Weapons Training ability.
-EMP-Warden Team:
- Everyone gets +1 Speed thanks to the Soul Fiend's Swiftness ability.
- Everyone lost -2 armor due to the enemy Aves Sturgi's Rust ability.
- Grimbardun Smith and Pelacor Conjurer gain +3 magic attack thanks to Moxian Rebel's Weapons Training ability.
Round 1:
Karst Harpy destroys ☠️Chaos Agent.
Moxian Rebel defeats ☠️Soul Fiend.
Round 2:
☠️Soul Fiend (EMP-Warden) is destroyed by the Earthquake effect.
Round 3:
Aves Sturgis defeats enemy ☠️Grimbardun Smith.
Grimbardun Smith destroys ☠️Moxian Rebel.
Round 4:
☠️Aves Sturgis is destroyed by the Earthquake effect.
Round 6:
Karst Harpy defeats enemy ☠️Pelacor Conjurer.
Grimbardun Smith destroys enemy ☠️Pelacor Conjurer.
Round 9:
Finally, Grimbardun Smith ends the battle by defeating ☠️Karst Harpy.
As said at the beginning, magic and ranged monsters will be the most used in the Fog of War ruleset and that's exactly what happened in this battle. Both players used similar cards only using 2 different monsters, which changes the outcome of the battle.
Although the EMP-Warden team had more attack damage, their ranged Harpy unit's Scattershot ability was not as good in this battle, because it did not follow the same target as its allies, while the opponent who only had magic damage attacked a single target, quickly defeating the tank monster first, then destroying the other units little by little, thus achieving victory.
MVP
Grimbardun Smith(Khazrakh) with a 3 kill streak
