Splinterlands — Only Neutral Monsters allowed!

Welcome everyone 👋, I'm back again with a new post for the Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge!

This week, the ruleset we have to introduce for this challenge is the Shades of Gray ruleset, which causes all monsters of all elements except neutral ones to be disabled from battle. The summoners of each element are still available.

I really like this ruleset, as it's refreshing to play with just neutral cards, after many battles of various elements. Personally, some of the powerful neutral cards that I like to use are:

Doctor Blight, ideal for the Little League ruleset. Counts with 5 abilities: Affliction (50% chance that enemy target cannot be healed), Camouflage (cannot be target by direct attacks), Poison (50% chance to poison enemies when attacking), Scavenger (gain +1 max health each time any unit dies) and Weaken (enemy units lose -1 health).
Drybone Raider, one of the few neutral cards with two types of attack, and capable of attacking twice. Its attacks destroy the enemy armor due to her Shatter ability, and cause the enemy unit to lose -1 health due to her Cripple ability. It will be very difficult to obtain this card at full level.
Arkemis the Bear, big melee monster that will grant +2 armor to allies. It has the Halving ability, which causes the enemy unit to lose half of its attack when attacking. Additionally, any damage with a power of 5 or more that Arkemis would take, will be reduced to 1. And finally, if this card is not at full health, it will have a 50% bonus to melee attack and speed.
Venka the Vile, that only card with a power 7 melee attack at the moment. She has the Charge ability, which makes her capable of attacking from any position. Also, her attacks have Piercing (surpass the enemy armor), Oppress ( deals double damage to units with no attack or trained) and if Venka defeats an enemy it performs another attack on the next enemy unit.

If the battle is in Wild mode you can chose between 84 monsters. And there are only 41 neutral monsters available in the modern format. Counting the only neutral gladius card: Tatiana Blade.

Keep in mind that there are no neutral monster at the moment with these abilities: Cleanse, Divine Shield, Headwinds, Last Stand, Life Leech and Resurrect:

(I'm not counting abilities that only one monster has, like Enfeeble.)

At the moment, the only neutral summoner card is Lux Vega, which can only be purchased at level 4 for $152 (currently the lowest price).

Now let's analyze a battle tournament, in the Gold League, with only gold rebellion cards allowed. Jedielf VS Shadowwolf888! image.png

In this battle, there is only one more ruleset apart from the Shades of Gray ruleset, which is the main topic of this post. The other ruleset is the Fog of War ruleset, which negates the effects of monsters with the Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities.

Jedielf, opt for an earth summoner: Underboss Fabino, and decides to choose to give +2 melee attack to Mantaroth and Venka the Vile.

In the first position, choose Mantaroth, a legendary unit that I considerer semi-aggressive and durable. His Shield and Repair defense abilities, make him resistant against melee and ranged attacks. And its True Strike (can't miss attacks) and Armored Strike (has an extra attack with his armor) abilities will help him to do some damage to enemy units.

In the second position, choose Moxian Rebel, although its Weapons Training ability will not benefit any unit in this battle, still has her magic damage. Perhaps it was chosen because it is the only 4 mana cost unit with armor.

And his last unit will be Venka the Vile, very aggressive that can attack in any position. Her attacks surpass armor, and if the enemy has no attacks or is trained she deals double damage.

Shadowwolf888 opts for a dragon summoner: Akane, and chooses to give Ambush to Grimbardun Smith and Venka the Vile.

In the first position is Grimbardun Smith, who will have 1 magic damage thanks to Moxian Rebel's Weapons Training ability. He also takes reduced damage from all types of attacks by 50%.

Mad Ogre Anarchist in the third position, who can normally attack from any position due to its Opportunity ability, but this ability is negated due to the Fog of War ruleset. So it won't attack until its first two allies are defeated.

And like its opponent also plays Venka the Vile in the last position.

Round 1:
Mantaroth and Grimbardun Smith were damaged but not defeated.

Round 2:
Venka the Vile (Jedielf team) defeats ☠️Grimbardun Smith.

Round 3:
Venka the Vile (Shadowwolf888 team) destroys ☠️Mantaroth.
Venka the Vile (Jedielf team) defeats enemy ☠️Moxian Rebel.

Round 4:
Venka the Vile (Shadowwolf888 team) destroys enemy ☠️Moxian Rebel.

Round 5:
Venka the Vile (Shadowwolf888 team) ends the battle by destroying ☠️enemy Venka the Vile.

Since only neutral units are allowed, monsters of other elements are prohibited, but summoners are still available, so both players decided to choose different summoners. Jedielf chooses to give +2 melee attack to two melee monsters and Shadowwolf opts for two units to attack before the battle begins.

This time Shadowwolf plays a better lineup than the opponent, with one more monster to protect Venka, who destroyed the enemy entire team. Shadowwolf wins the battle with two monsters alive.
