Splinterlands — Poisoned monsters!

Welcome everyone 👋, I'm back again with a new post for the Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge!

This week, the ruleset we have to introduce for this challenge is the Noxious Fumes ruleset. Normally for a monster to be poisoned, it needs to be attacked by a monster that has the Poison ability, which has a 50% chance to apply it. But this ruleset causes all monsters on the battlefield to already start Poisoned, losing -2 health at the start each round, except the first round.

Knowing this, we can take advantage of the effects of the poison, making use of our martyr monsters that have low health, so that when defeated, they will increase +1 to all the stats of their adjacent allies.

The Noxious Fumes effect only applies Poison at the start of the battle, meaning monsters resurrected with the 30x30 resurrect.pngResurrect or 30x30 rebirth.png Rebirth abilities, will not be poisoned again by this ruleset.

Immunity

Monsters with this ability are immune to negative effects, this includes poison.

Other abilities that can help against Poison:

Life Leech
life leech.png
Monsters with this ability will increase their health each time they deal damage to the health of enemy monsters, by 50%. So if they manage to deal at least 3 damage, they will gain +2 health, that way the poison won't be as fatal.
Scavenger
scavenger.png
Monsters with this ability, gain +1 max health, each time a monster on either team dies.
Cleanse
cleanse.png
Monsters with this ability remove negative effects on the ally in the first position.
Strengthen
strenghthen.png
Monsters with this ability grant +1 health to all allies. Can be stacked.

And of course, the trio of healing abilities: Heal, Tank Heal, and Triage are very useful here, as they will restore a max third of the unit's health each turn.

Heal

Monsters with this ability heals themselves.
Tank Heal

Monsters with this ability heal the ally in the first position.
Triage

Monsters with this ability heal the backline ally who has taken the most damage.

Keep in mind that monsters with the 30x30 divine shield.png Divine Shield ability, are still affected by the poison, still lose -2 health, and the Divine Shield is not removed.

There are currently 2 summoners that grant the Poison ability, and only 1 that directly poisons a monster:

By the way, Cryptic is the only card that can remove the Immunity ability. By granting the Expose ability to two monsters, they have an 80% chance to remove immunity from enemy units when they attack.

Consider these summoners that are good against poison:

Lily Shieldpaw will heal the backline unit that took the most damage in the previous round, at the start of each round. Additionally, it will grant +1 health to all its allies. And the Camouflage ability, which prevents them from being attacked with direct attacks unless they are in the first position.
Astral Entity will resurrect the first defeated allied monster, bringing it back to life with 1 HP and its base armor, and no poison. Additionally, it grants the Dodge ability to its allies, giving them a 25% chance to evade melee and ranged attacks. And lastly, Astral passively reduces enemies' armor by -2.

You can exclusively use these summoners in WILD battles:

Scarred Llama Mage has the Cleanse ability, removing negative effects on the frontline monster at the start of each round. And it will give its monsters +2 health. Additionally, if a monster is alone in the team, it will have the effects of the Last Stand ability, gaining 50% to all stats.
Mimosa Nightshade will apply Affliction to all enemy units, preventing them from being healed. Additionally, she grants the Void ability to her allies, reducing the damage they take from magic attacks by 50%. And Mimosa passively reduces the attack of all ranged monsters by 1.

Now let's analyze a high ranking battle, Champion league, on the Wild Format:
HousewifeFTW VS Bubke!

In this battle, in addition to the Noxious Fumes ruleset, all melee attack monsters will gain the Reach ability, allowing them to attack from the second position. And lastly, the Unprotected ruleset, which makes it so that monsters have no armor and do not gain it by any method.

The first player, HousewifeFTW, decides to play with Possibilus the Wise as her summoner. The +2 health to allies, will help against the poison. Additionally, this summoner will grant the Reach and Trample abilities to its monsters, allowing only melee monsters to attack from the second position and if they defeat an enemy monster, they will perform another attack on the next enemy.

The Kraken will be in the first position. It draws all enemy attacks towards it due to its Taunt ability. Also reduces the attack of enemy melee monsters by 1. If the Kraken's health is damaged, it gains 50% bonus melee attack and speed. And lastly, when hit by a melee attack, it has a 50% chance to counterattack.

Baakjira, the big whale monster that has high 16 hit points. This card takes reduced damage from magic attacks by 50% due to its Void ability. Also, while alive, it increases the health of all allies by 1. And heals itself up to a max of one-third of its health each turn. Additionally, reduces the speed of all enemies by 1.

Kulu Mastermind will grant +3 melee attack to Baakjira, thanks to his Weapons Training ability. Additionally, Kulu attacks the enemy unit with the lowest health. And takes reduced damage from melee attacks by 50%. And like his ally Kraken, he has the Enrage ability.

Mermaid Healer, the only magic monster in the lineup, which will Cleanse the Kraken and any allied monster in the first position, removing poison and other negative effects. Additionally, she increases the health of her allies by +1. And will heal the backline ally whose health has taken the most damage each turn.

Merdaali Guardian, a support unit, that, like the mermaid healer, will increase allies' health by +1. Mermaid will heal her ally in the first position for up to a max third of their health. And lastly, she will repair up to 2 armor to the ally whose armor has received the most damage each turn.

And in the last position will be Deeplurker, who will attack the enemy unit with lower health due to is Opportunity ability. And passively, reduces the melee attack of all enemy units by 1. This card also has the Poison ability, which won't be as relevant in this battle.

The second player, Bubke, also uses Possibilus the Wise as his summoner.

And like his opponent, he also plays Baakjira, Kulu, Deeplurker and Mermaid Healer in his lineup, in different positions.

In the fifth position is Runi, who will attack the enemy with the lowest health. Their attacks cannot miss. Additionally, it has the Rebirth ability, which allows it, if defeated, to return with 1 HP and its base armor. And lastly, this card takes no damage from Blast, magic reflect, return fire or thorns thanks to its reflection shield.

And in the six position is Wave Brood, which like the Kraken has the Taunt ability. This ranged card can attack in the first position. Additionally, it takes reduced damage from magic attacks by 50%. And if hit by a ranged attack, it will return half the damage back to the attacker.

Watch on Splinterlands

Both players used the same summoner and only two monsters were different in each lineup. This time Runi and Wave Brood on Bubke's team were more useful than the Kraken (very powerful creature), and Merdaali, who heals it.

Both players' units had to first defeat the opposing team's respective Taunt monster, before the Opportunity monsters could begin attacking the lower health enemies.

The battle was even, until in round 4, when Kulu (team Bubke) activated his Trample ability by defeating Mermaid healer, allowing him to attack again, this time at Deeplurker, defeating him as well. And that is why Bubke's team took the advantage, thus gradually defeating the enemy monsters, managing to win.
