Splinterlands Weekly Challenge - Counterspell Ruleset
Hello everyone, I'm back with a new post for the Splinterlands Weekly Challenge!
The topic of the week is the Counterspell ruleset, let's get into it:
Counterspell: |
---|
All Monsters have the Magic Reflect ability. |
When hit with Magic damage, does reduced Magic damage back to the attacker. |
- Deals damage equivalent to the attacker's damage divided by 2, rounded up.
Recommended abilities to use with this ruleset:
- Monsters with the Reflection Shield ability are immune to all indirect or reflected damage like the Magic Reflect ability.
- Amplify will increase the damage of the Magic Reflect ability.
- Heal, Tank Heal and Triage abilities will restore some HP to Magic monsters that were damaged.
- The Void ability reduces the damage of Magical attacks.
- The Void Armor ability will cause Magic attacks to hit the Monster's armor before its Health.
- With this ruleset, most monsters on the battlefield will likely be Melee and Ranged, so cards with Demoralize, Headwinds, Thorns and/or Return Fire would be great.
Curiosities:
At the moment the only summoner that gives the Magic Reflect ability is:
There are many monsters that have the Magic Reflect ability on their own:

In this battle, the following rulesets are active:
Tis but Scratches | Counterspell |
All Monsters have the Cripple ability. | All Monsters have the Magic Reflect ability. |
Team Lineup
Summoner | Abilities | |
---|---|---|
+1 Speed and Return Fire | Ilthain. Since the Counterspell ruleset is active, I was between choosing the summoner: Mylor or Ilthain, after seeing my opponent's recent battles using more ranged monsters than melee monsters, I opted for the Return Fire ability that Ilthain provides. Riftwatchers card |
Monsters: | Abilities: | |
---|---|---|
Shield | Chain Golem. Its Shield ability will reduce the damage taken from Melee and Ranged monsters. Untamed Promo card | |
Close Range | Hero of Beyond. I prefer to use Ranged monsters instead of Magic monsters because Counterspell is active in this battle. This Hero has the Close Range ability that allows him to attack in first position. Untamed Core card | |
Sneak and Double Strike | Silvershield Assassin. In case my opponent uses a Shield monster in the front row, this assassin will destroy the enemy monsters in the back line with its Double Strike. Beta Reward card | |
None | Peacebringer. This ranged monster has no abilities, but only costs 4 mana and deals 3 damage. Alpha/Beta Core card | |
Blast | Prismologist. One of my most used ranged life cards, it not only does 3 damage but also deals damage to adjacent monsters this card attacks. Chaos Legion Core card | |
Sneak | Dumacke Exile. In last position, another monster with the Sneak ability that will help his assassin ally to defeat the enemy monsters in the rear. Riftwatchers card |

Conclusion:
When the Counterspell ruleset is in play, magic monsters will most likely not enter the battle unless they have abilities like Void or Reflection Shield.
Thanks to my summoner: Ilthain, I had the advantage in this battle because enemy ranged monsters were easier to defeat and then my monsters destroyed the remaining enemies pretty quickly.
