Splinterlands Weekly Challenge — Equal Opportunity Ruleset
Welcome everyone👋, I'm back with a new post for the Splinterlands Weekly Challenge!
It's one of my favorite rulesets to play because there are so many interesting and fun strategies that can be used. This time I'll show you what I think is an amazing battle with the amazing Equal Opportunity ruleset, but before that, let's look at some details and how we can take advantage of it:
Equal Opportunity: |
---|
All Monsters have the Opportunity ability. |
Monsters with the Opportunity ability may attack from any position, even if they are melee monsters and will target the enemy Monster with the lowest health.
Keep in mind that monsters with Snipe, Sneak or Scattershot abilities ignore this ruleset.
Defensive abilities:
Units with the Camouflage ability will not be attacked unless they are in the first position.
Monsters with the Divine Shield ability ignore the first damage they take.
With the Protect ability, your monsters gain +2 armor (can stack).
If you want to protect your weaker monsters, you can use a monster with the Taunt ability since enemy monsters will prioritize attacking it first. Be careful with units that have the Fury ability as they do double damage to monsters with the Taunt ability.
Depending on the other rulesets and/or analyzing what kind of monsters the opponent might use, you can play with Demoralize, Headwinds and/or Silence abilities which are good for reducing the attack damage of enemy monsters.
As always, except when the Healed Out ruleset and/or the Affliction ability are in play, the Heal, Tank Heal, and Triage abilities will be useful for restoring the health of allied monsters that have taken damage.
Offensive abilities:
To do more damage, you can use monsters with the Blast ability which allows them to deal additional damage to monsters adjacent to the target they attack. Additional damage is equivalent to main damage divided by 2, rounded up.
Monsters with the Bloodlust ability benefit from this ruleset, as it makes it easier for them to attack the weaker monster, and upon defeating it, they receive +1 to all stats.
Now, with the new soul bound reward cards, there's a new strategy with these monsters that have the Martyr ability, who when killed, adjacent monsters get +1 to all stats.
Take advantage of the new Born Again ruleset if it's in play, as they'll resurrect with 1 HP and can activate their Martyr ability again. This can also be done with monsters that have the
Resurrect ability, as they will bring Martyr units back to life and buff their allies again.
Use among the martyr monsters, units with Bloodlust and/or Double Strike abilities to strengthen them. You can also make them gain more attack with units that have the Inspire ability (melee gain +1 attack) or summoners that boost the specific attack type of the monster you are playing.
Curiosities
There are some monsters that have the Opportunity ability:

All Monsters have the Opportunity ability. | All Monsters have the Amplify ability. | All Monsters have the Cripple ability. |
Lobb Lowland (Summoner)
Mana: 6 | Level: 1
Rarity: Rare | Edition: Chaos Reward
All enemy Monsters have -1 Speed.
Conscript: Allows the use of one additional Gladiator card in battle.
In this battle, as the Equal Opportunity ruleset is in play, I decided to use Quora with the soulbound reward cards that have martyr abilities to empower her, but for that I need to use the new Conscript ability and even if my gorilla summoner was level 1, that's more than enough to show how strong Quora can be.
Hill Giant
Mana: 3 | Level: 1
Melee: 1 | Speed: 1 | Health: 6
Rarity: Common | Edition: Chaos
In first position, I chose this giant to get the martyr buff when my Venari dies. It's the second healthiest monster on my team, so it won't be attacked until my other weaker monsters stay alive, except for the enemy monster on the front row, since the Opportunity ability is active.
Although it doesn't have any abilities at this level, its purpose is to stay in the front row for as long as possible, until Quora destroys the enemy backline monsters and becomes stronger.
Venari Marksrat
Mana: 3 | ★ Level: 1
Ranged: 1 Speed: 1 Health: 2
Rarity: Rare | Edition: Chaos Reward
In second position, this rat will probably be the first monster to die because it is one of the lowest health on my team and closer to first position. Who upon death will activate its special ability: Martyr, which gives adjacent monsters +1 to all stats.
Quora Towershead
Mana: 10 | Level: 1 | Speed: 3
Magic: 2, Melee: 2 | Health: 11
Rarity: Epic | Edition: Gladius
In third position, the amazing Quora who has 2 types of attacks and will receive a total of +2 to all her stats when her two martyred allies die. When Quora defeats a monster she will get +1 to all stats thanks to her Bloodlust ability. Also, she won't be easily defeated as she has the Heal ability, restoring her life points each round.
Fungus Flinger
Mana: 3 | Level: 1
Ranged: 1 | Speed: 1 | Health: 2
Rarity:Common | Edition:ChaosReward
In fourth position, for the moment the only earth monster that has the Martyr ability.
This small creature will also be a sacrifice to strengthen its Quora ally by giving it +1 to all stats.
Queen Mycelia
Mana: 4 | Level: 1
Magic: 1 | Speed: 1 | Health: 4
Rarity: Legendary | Edition: Chaos
In fifth position, even though I have 2 Martyr monsters whose purpose is to buff my other monsters, I don't want them to be defeated so easily. That's why I chose this Queen because she has the Protect ability giving all my monsters +2 armor.
Mycelic Morphoid
Mana: 1 | Level: 1
Melee: 1 | Speed: 1 | Health: 2
Rarity: Common | Edition: Chaos
In the last position, I chose this Mycelic monster for its Thorns ability but I forgot that it will be level 1 so it won't have it :P. In case the enemy uses some Sneak monsters, this mycelic monster will be the target of them. It's not the strongest, but as long as it can buy some time, it's enough for Quora to become more powerful.
- All enemy monsters have Speed from Lobb Lowland's ability.
- All enemy monsters have Health and the Cleanse ability thanks to Scarred Llama Mage.
- All monsters gain Armor thanks to Queen Mycelia on both sides.

Quora Towershead with a 5 kill streak.
CONCLUSION
I took advantage of the Equal Opportunity ruleset to play Quora Towershead from third position so she can defeat weaker enemy monsters and become stronger thanks to her Bloodlust ability.
I also put my two soulbound martyr monsters next to her so that when they die, she gets the +1 buff to all stats.
Even Venari Knifer, who received the Last Stand effects provided by Llama, was no match for her. Thanks to her allies, Quora was able to emerge victorious.
