Welcome everyone👋, I'm back with a new post for the Splinterlands Weekly Challenge!

In this opportunity, I will show you a battle with the amazing Even Stevens ruleset, but before that, let's take a look at some details and how we can take advantage of it:

1even.png

Even Stevens:
Only Monsters with even Mana costs may be used in battles.

This ruleset is like someone taking our cards while we sleep, but this thief for some reason only likes odd mana cards, so we still have the even mana cards to play :P

We'll have fewer options to play than we usually have, but we'll still have some powerful cards:
Water cards: Djinn Oshannus 50x50 DjinnOsh.png
Fire : Magnor 50x50 magnor.png
Earth: Kron the Undying 50x50 kron.png
Life: Corsair Bosun 50x50 corsair.png
Death: Harklaw 50x50 harklaw.png
Dragon: Djinn Chwala 50x50 djinnChw.png
Neutral: Chain Golem 1golem.png

One point to remember is that most 30x30 sneak.png Sneak monsters have an odd mana cost, so we don't have to worry about our last monster. But be a little careful when the Little League ruleset is in play, as most monsters that have Sneak cost 4 or 2 mana.

Also, Water and Life cards monsters that have the 30x30 tank heal.png Tank Heal ability cannot be played, as they all have odd mana cost.

There is only one 30x30 martyr.png Martyr monster that can be used in this ruleset: 50x50 Vruz.pngVruz.

1Dragon.png DARIA DRAGONSCALE

25x25 Mana.png Mana: 4 | ★ Level: 2
Rarity: Epic 25x25 epic.png | Edition: Beta Reward 25x25 Beta.png 25x25 Reward.png
35x35 +1 melee.png All friendly Melee Attack Monsters have +1 Melee Attack

In this battle, all monsters will have the Enrage ability, which increases melee attack and speed by 1.5 rounded up when damaged, so I chose Daria to increased my melee attack monsters so they will benefit from this ruleset. She's an epic summoner, so she allows me to play level 3 rare cards in a bronze battle like this.

01chain.png

35x35 Neutral.png CHAIN GOLEM

25x25 Mana.png Mana: 8 | ★ Level: 1 | 25x25 Speed.png Speed: 2
25x25 Melee attack.png Melee: 3 | 25x25 Health.png Health: 7
| 25x25 armor.png Armor: 4
Rarity: Legendary 25x25 legendary.png | Edition: Promo 25x25 Promo.png

In first position, this Golem will be a very tough and difficult to defeat tank monster, reducing the damage taken from melee and ranged attacks thanks to its 30x30 shield.pngShield ability. This tank gets +1 melee attack from Daria's buff and when taking damage will have more attack thanks to the Enrage ability provided by the first ruleset.

000corsair.png

50x50 Life1.png CORSAIR BOSUN

25x25 Mana.png Mana: 10 | ★ Level: 3 | 25x25 Speed.png Speed: 3
25x25 Melee attack.png Melee: 5 | 25x25 Health.png Health: 7
| 25x25 armor.png Armor: 5
Rarity: Rare 25x25 Rare W.png | Edition: Riftwatchers 25x25 Rift.png

In second position, this corsair costs 10 mana but is worth it, it has great stats and great abilities, one of the few units with the 30x30 reflect.png Reflection Shield ability that makes it immune to all indirect, or reflected damage (it doesn't take damage from Blast, Thorns, Return Fire, or Magic Reflect). This Corsair can attack from the second position thanks to its 30x30 reach.png Reach ability, being a second tank for the team.

03defender.png

50x50 Life1.png DEFENDER OF TRUTH

25x25 Mana.png Mana: 4 | ★ Level: 2 | 25x25 Speed.png Speed: 3
25x25 magic attack.png Magic: 2 | 25x25 Health.png Health: 3
| 25x25 armor.png Armor: 1
Rarity: Epic 25x25 epic.png | Edition: Alpha/Beta 25x25 Alpha.png 25x25 Beta.png

I'd like to use more melee monsters, but they can't attack from third position onwards unless they have the Opportunity or Sneak ability, but they would attack different targets. And I want my monsters to attack the same enemy target starting with the enemy monster in the first row, so that the other enemies don't activate the Enrage ability, that's why I chose this magic monster and even though it has no ability at this level, it deals 2 magic attack damage which works for my strategy.

000 time mage.png

50x50 Life1.png TIME MAGE

25x25 Mana.png Mana: 4 | ★ Level: 3
25x25 magic attack.png Magic: 2 | 25x25 Speed.png Speed: 4 | 25x25 Health.png Health: 3
Rarity: Rare 25x25 Rare W.png | Edition: Chaos 25x25 Chaos.png

In fourth position, this mage is one of the life chaos cards I use the most because she has the 30x30 slow.pngSlow ability that reduces the speed of all enemy monsters by -1, putting the battle in my favor as long as my opponent doesn't speed up his monsters or slow down my monsters.

03peace.png

50x50 Life1.png PEACEBRINGER

25x25 Mana.png Mana: 4 | ★ Level: 3
25x25 ranged attack.png Ranged: 3 | 25x25 Speed.png Speed: 3 | 25x25 Health.png Health: 5
Rarity: Rare 25x25 Rare W.png | Edition: Beta 25x25 Beta.png

Although this unit has no ability, for only 4 mana it does decent damage, and will help its allies to destroy the enemy frontline monster. It will attack faster than my melee monsters because its attack type is ranged. It can also attack from the first position thanks to the Close Range ruleset.

01 spirit miner.png

35x35 Neutral.png SPIRIT MINER

25x25 Mana.png Mana: 6 | ★ Level: 1
25x25 magic attack.png Magic: 2 | 25x25 Speed.png Speed: 3 | 25x25 Health.png Health: 6
Rarity:Legendary25x25 legendary.png | Edition:Beta Reward 25x25 Beta.png25x25 Reward.png

In last position, this legendary spirit will be my last magic monster on the battlefield. I put him in the last row because he has the 30x30 dodge.pngDodge ability which gives him a 25% chance to evade possible Sneak attacks from melee or ranged enemy monsters.

B1z.png

  • All enemy monsters gain35x35 +1speed.png Speed from Helios Matriarch's ability, but lose it thanks to Time Mage's 35x35 Slow.png Slow ability.
  • All my monsters have 35x35 +1 melee.png Melee Attack thanks to Daria Dragonscale.

Time Mage for slow down enemies.

CONCLUSION

The Even Stevens ruleset always changes the way I play cards as I have fewer options, forcing me to think of another strategy with only even monsters that I wouldn't need to think about if I had full cards.

Anyway, in this battle my strategy was very simple, destroy the enemy monsters one by one starting from the first row onwards. I use some melee monsters to take advantage of the Enrage ruleset, also some magic monsters in case the enemy use units with the Shield ability.

By having my monsters with higher attack damage and being slightly faster than my opponent's monsters, my team was able to emerge victorious.
