Custom Splinterlands Weekly Challenge - Void Armor - [ENG/ESP]

Hey everyone!

The current Weekly Challenge is about the Antoid Platoon, but, since I got a Life Focus, I rented Life cards for my gameplay in the Diamond League.

So, this Challenge is going to be about the Chain Spinner and the Legionnaire Alvar. It was going to be about the Chain Spinner only, but I used the Alvar in the same way, since they both share the Void Armor ability.

About the Chain Spinner and the Legionnaire Alvar

The Chain Spinner is part of the previous Reward Edition, the one that has the Untamed Edition frame for the cards. Since I started playing in August, I was able to get some Spinners, even a Gold Foil one. Unfortunately, the card itself is quite useless at the lower levels, so, after some failed attempts to win battles with it, I forgot about it.

Now, recently, I encountered an opponent, at the high level Leagues, that used this card in his team in a very effective way, and that stuck in my head, so I decided to rent this card at max level to see if I could give it some use. At max level this card doesn’t get another ability, however, it’s Armor increase from 3, at level 1, to 10, at level 10; it also gets +1 Melee/+1 Speed.

The Legionnaire Alvar, unlike the Spinner, is part of the Chaos Legion Edition, and you can only get this Legendary in packs or in the Market. In my opinion, at level 1, is quite inconsequential, because it’s a quite Mana expensive card to summon and despite it’s many hit points, it’s attack and speed are not very useful.

At level 2, however, this changes; his attack goes up by one point and gets the Giant Killer effect, which is one of the new effects from the most recent Edition, and I believe this to be a very useful ability for when we are cornered by those very powerful tanks, like Grum or the Kraken. So yeah, if I have the chance, I rent the Alvar from Silver League and onwards.

Void Armor

Usually, Magic attacks hit your Health Points directly, and, because of that, Magic Monsters are very useful in the lower Leagues. There are two exceptions, however, where Magic hits Armor first, as far as I know; the first one is when there is a “Weak Magic” rule. In this case Magic hits Armor before Health, and this applies to every Monster. The second case is when a Monster in particular has the Void Armor ability.

Taking these cases into account we can exploit these situations in our favour, in order to get victory on the battlefield. The battles in this post are going to be about the second case.

Battles

Battle 1
Ruleset
  • Healed Out: All healing abilies are removed from Monsters and Summoners.
  • Lost Legendaries: Legendary Monsters may not be used in battles.
  • Water and Dragon Splinter not allowed.
  • Mana cap: 99.
Lineup & Analysis

Lineup1.png

This is one of those situations where we can exploit the Void Armor effect; we have a “Healed Out” rule, which means we are not going to be able to heal. Considering that I’m using the Life Splinter, and that healing cards are a great resource for this Splinter, the fact that I’m not able to heal is a bigger problem for me than for my opponent, who’s using the Fire Splinter.

Screenshot_1.png

However, there is no limitation for Armor Repair, and the Life Splinter has plenty of Armor and Armorsmiths. The Chain Spinner, as I said, has 10 points of Armor at max level, so my Summoner and the Lone Boatman acted as “Armor Healers”, plus, the Silvershield Sheriff gave my Monsters some extra Armor.
Unfortunately for me, Armor Repair, unlike healing, that recovers 33% of a Monster’s Health, only regenarates 2 Armor points, but anyways my strategy was good enough to endure long enough the attack of four enemy Monsters to my tank, including 2 Magic Monsters, while my Sheriff, Assassin and Boatman, took down my opponent’s back line.

Battle 2
Ruleset
  • Healed Out: All healing abilities are removed from Monsters and Summoners.
  • Reverse Speed: Monsters with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.
  • Water and Death Splinters not allowed.
  • Mana cap: 44.
Lineup & Analysis

Lineup2.png

Another battle without healing, but we are able to use Legendaries. Here we can appreciate the Giant Killer effect, from the Alvar, against Grum. And for those who like to look for sinergy between cards, here’s a good example: Resurrection revives your Monsters with one Health point, right? They could be healed, of course, but until that happens, they are extremely vulnerable. If you have a Monster with very high Armor, like the Alvar or the Spinner, his Armor will be like new, when revived. Notice that the Alvar was Resurrected twice.

Weaknesses

This kind of Monsters are quite good for defense, however, they have a couple of weak spots; first, they have a lot of Armor and few Health points, so, if the opponent uses a Monster with “Shatter”, it can leave you quite vulnerable, like in this example…

Battle Link

Screenshot_1.png

Second, you are vulnerable to Poison. Although a Monster’s attack may have to go through ten points of Armor, if you are affected by Poison, that damage goes directly to your Health points, so for a Monster like the Chain Spinner, that has three HP, that is 66% of damage. So beware if you see Poisonous cards in your opponents battle history. Unfortunately I don’t have that battle for you to see, it’s buried far away in my battle history.

Ok, I feel like I could keep writing more about Armor and Monsters, but I’m going to end it here…

Waaait a second… at the moment I’m writing this, a new airdrop card appeared, after 9kk packs were sold. It’s a new Life Summoner that grants Void Armor to all of your Monsters, so multiply what you have read X10.

Thanks for reading!
