Do not go gentle...

Do not go gentle into that good night

I read that Dylan Thomas poem in school. It was one of the few rare poem that I still remember and can recite. The reason I brought this up, is because of the new Auction card at Splinterlands Heloise the Hollow!

Meet Heloise the Hollow: a legendary death-earth antihero who refuses to go gentle into that good night. Your opponent won't just fear her powerful melee attacks; they'll fear what happens every time she's destroyed!

I know Joey was likely thining about Dylan Thomas when he wrote this. This poem is popular among people in the armed forces. You can tell why especially if you hear Anthony Hopkins recite the poem as was popularized in the Christopher Nolan's epic movie Interstellar.

Heloise the Hollow
Heloise d’Armand once led the Dawnbringers, a band of mercenaries that stood against the Chaos Empire. But as defeats mounted and her dream of liberation slipped away, she faced an impossible choice: watch her cause die or sacrifice her loyal followers for the power to achieve her goals.

She chose power. In an instant, her companions' life force surged into her, granting her incredible strength—and twisting her into something else entirely. Something monstrous. She became Heloise the Hollow, a symbol of all that can be lost in pursuit of power.

I am very fond of this lore, because I hold the Dawnbringer title myself. I think, as always Joey did an exemplary job on the lore on this one.

So bottom line this is an exclusive auction for 100 max card that happens once in every day for 100 days. Every 20th card is a gold foil, so there are 5 total gold foils and 95 regular foil cards for this one. There were some thoughts earlier:

  • There won't be any demand for this card
  • Price of this card will be low as no one will want them
  • No one in their right mind will pay $1000 for a card

By the way, here is the card in action at a ghost card tournament.

Watch the game and shudder!:)

Well as we all know, talking heads are usually wrong, and people can't predict the future.

So far, 4 cards have been sold and they are all above $1000 (well VV perhaps got slightly lucky, as depending on DEC price that second one could be just a tad below $1000). So far I say that is a nice price discovery. Mind you this is not just a card, it is auction. Auction itself is a game and a very old one at that. It brings out the best and worst in people and prices are usually always higher that what you would have guessed before the auction.

Personally I love auction and I have bought many items from auction, here are some basics tips for those who wants to participate.

  • Know your budget ahead of time
  • Try not to go above your budget, because as the clock ticks you would want to
  • Have funds ready
  • Hopefully those funds are not your living expense
  • Be prepared for sniping (last min outbid)
  • Don't be angry if someone snipes, just bid a high number, but lower than budget
  • It is okay not to get it, likely you won't:)

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Good luck out there!

I can already tell that most of this stuff is going to be much too rich for my blood. I just don't have the funds to compete. It's kind of sad really. I have a lot of time invested in the game.

Yes, it is expensive, no denying that. Perhaps it is the team that will benefit.

I very well know that I won't be able to get Heloise so I will just settle for Riklauniman and at least get it to level 2 to join with my Pallus. Best of luck with the auction.

No need to say that, set up a budget, and you still have 96 chances

I can see you winning the 5th auction. How many copies do you intend to buy? Surely, one copy is not enough.

Don't know. Four I am guessing

3 BCX gets her to level 2. You get the Spite ability. 6 copies just adds her stats but not ability.

They are all Max copies. No need to level up

Well put AZ and Heloise is going to be insane in Modern play... I can't really afford one at the $1,000 price point but I hope to get one of the later ones (or on the Market).

Here's to the Crypto Market going hard in the Bull so I can get one lmaoooooo

WOW! Those are indeed scary battles! Thank you for sharing :-) I'm glad that there's demand and hence influx of money for the DAO :-)

I am glad that people are bidding up this card as it supports my favorite game, but it is a bit much for my budget. I would rather buy $1000 worth of Hive and increase my Hive Power.

yes, $1000 worth of hive as an investment likely outperform the card

I look forward to having my ass kicked with this card just to see it in battle. At least I'll be able to play it in future ghost tourneys.

yeah I wont say impossible. Not something I'm expecting to own in the short term.

I see you are still bidding on the new auctions, is this to set a floor price? I'm pleased to see so far each one has gone to a different player.

I have multiple scholars, so I will be trying to get a few for them.

I am also glad to see that each one has gone to a different player.

Awesome poem. In the actual movie I think it was Michael Caine the one the recited part of it, and it was awesome:

Yes Michael Caine indeed recited in the original movie, but I like this version. Hopkins's voice is deeper and more suitable for the poem.

Reading about Splinterlands on Hive and finding a reference to Interstellar... what a perfect combination :)

Btw I'm really curious to see the price at which the Gold Foil version will be sold: I guess it's going to be quite an amount of money!

I am curious myself. Higher the better

We must remember that you receive it at a maximum level.

If it really isn't distributed differently or better versions created after Rebellion ceases to be a current collection. It's a good investment to have it.
