Is Land Net Positive?

Is Land Net Positive?

I have a long summer vacation coming up, so I this week I am winding down work. However, the moment I get a little break I can into the details of land utilization these days. As I was messing around with a spreadsheet, I decided to look at the land richlist graphically. Sometimes a graph or a picture is worth a thousand words.

The plot above is the visual representation of the Land Plot Richlist, publicly available from multiple sources and the blockchain. Here ownership quantity is ploted against ranking of players. Starts with @vugtis at number 1 with 4412 plots, to down into the weeds of a single plot owners (respect and appreciate your support folks!), with #3556 @jadeoce and 1420 or so people with 1 plot! The vertical axis is log scale for ease of display. Here are some fun facts:

  1. There are 51 accounts with 1000 plots or more
  2. There are 303 accounts with 100 plots or more
  3. There are 719 accounts with 10 plots or more
  4. There are 2136 accounts with 2 plots or more

Here is another way of visualizing it. This is sum of plots in the vertical axis against serial number on richlist, starting with @vugtis with #1 again. I highlighted that 67,000 sum with #45. Why? Because that is about sun of 50% of the total plots. Out of ~3500 people, top 45 owns 50% of the land plots. In other words 1.2% of the people controls half the wealth.

Questions

  1. Whatever we do on land, it benefits 45 people to 719 people? 45 is the 50 percentile, 719 is people with at least 10 plot. Both numbers are arbitrary cutoffs, you choose.

  2. Those 2136 accounts out of 3556, or about 60% of land holders who only own 2 plots each, how much land will benefit them?

  3. Whatever we do with Land 1.5, is the top 40% will be happy?

  4. Are the bottom 60% will be happy? Will they want more land?

  5. Will new players be remotely interested in land?

Answer to the last one depends on the answer of #4. Whether land will be relevant to the game of not will depend on how we answer these questions.
